What is an Executive MBA?

The Executive MBA is the perfect program for a business leader who may be at the mid-stage in his career and is currently looking to be promoted within the organization he works presently within. This distance program is also attractive to those who desire to become more marketable to other potential employers. No matter a business professional’s reasoning, the Executive MBA has been designed to equip graduate students with a broad scope of business leadership training for the many facets of business in the world today.

The relevant courses featured in an Executive MBA degree will often be similar to those found in a traditional MBA degree but with a bend toward executive leadership concepts. For example, Duke University offers an incredible Global Executive MBA. The unique courses provided within this program include Energy, Markets, and Innovation, Corporate Finance, Emerging Markets Strategy, Corporate Restructuring, Entrepreneurial Strategy for Innovation-based Ventures, Health Care Markets, and Market Intelligence. The core curriculum of this stellar degree is dedicated to strengthening the skills of the executive leader, and areas of leadership like analytics, change management, international business, and investments are included within any executive’s priority list. Today’s modern business leader is competitive and well-versed in the ability to lead an organization through change. An online Executive MBA is the right program to pursue for this reason.

What are the major differences between an Online MBA and an Online Executive MBA?

There are some key similarities to the traditional online MBA and the online executive MBA offered at finer business schools across the country. Many programs will offer an executive focus alongside other emphases like supply chain management, marketing, accounting, sports management, and leadership. Baylor University is one such school that offers an online MBA with a focus on Executive Communication. Some business schools like the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia have gone a step further and have designed a fully encased Executive MBA degree.

Some of the most obvious differences between an online executive MBA and an online MBA can be experienced through the application process. Many business schools require that incoming students to their online MBAs have at least two years of work experience on their resumes as well as the successful completion of a bachelor’s degree. The online Executive MBA will often require that incoming candidates have at least five or more years of qualifying professional management experience before being eligible for the program. “Experience” can often mean entrepreneurial or managerial experience in the workforce. This ensures that the business school candidate knows what it takes to be highly motivated as a business builder or leader of people.

The select group of seasoned managers within an EMBA program makes a lasting difference in the program’s courses as well. Since much of an online MBA program is determined by the topics discussed between groups and peers in the classes, the dialogue and teamwork through assignments with other high-level managers improve the discussion and works to distinguish the overall program.

What are the benefits of an Online Executive MBA?

An online Executive MBA is best discovered when considering what a program like this one can offer over the years for a business professional. There are tons of press write-ups committed to lauding the many benefits of an MBA. It is clear that a program like the MBA makes a business professional so much more marketable to potential employers and will increase a worker’s earning potential throughout her career.

A professional with an online Executive MBA under his belt can match experience in business with a respected graduate degree that has specifically been designed to equip a leader for a broad spectrum of business management opportunities at an elite level. Organizations and corporations can trust that upper-level business leaders with an Executive MBA are more than capable of communicating to teams, leading through change, and utilize analytical thinking to solve problems and make crucial decisions.

What things should I consider while researching Online EMBA programs?

There are a slew of factors to consider when comparing and contrasting Executive MBAs. A business school’s reputation is a noteworthy issue to recognize as future employers may not be impressed with your pursuing a degree from a school that lacks a substantial accreditation. Be on the lookout for a program offered at a business school accredited by the AACSB-International, IACBE, or ACBSP, as accreditation through these entities ensures academic credibility and organizational integrity.

Tuition rates are also critical factors as some excellent programs in the country are delivered with very attractive tuition rates. Another crucial element to consider when looking into an online Executive MBA degree is a business school’s support services to graduate students taking courses through distance learning. Graduate programs can take between one and three years to complete. Online students will want to look for top business schools that are good at communicating with graduate students who work full time.

While there are many questions to be answered when searching for your next degree, students can be assured that top online Executive MBAs are a great way to learn more about executive leadership and move your career forward.
