How do Employers View Online Master’s Degrees?

If you are of a certain age, you witnessed the beginning of online education. At the time, it was a huge step in technology and educational opportunities. The first institution to offer fully online bachelor’s and master’s degrees was the University of Phoenix in 1989. Since then, we look back and realize that online degrees began as being viewed as lesser degrees. Some of the “online schools” did not carry great reputations, were for-profit institutions, lacked resources, and did not educate their students as well as traditional non-profit schools.

Fortunately for online education, technology has rapidly advanced over the years, providing massive improvements to the delivery of online degrees. The most significant impact on employers becoming more accepting of online degrees is the rapidly increasing number of well-established, highly-regarded, regionally accredited colleges and universities offering a variety of online undergraduate and graduate degrees. Students who pursue an online degree can be viewed as highly motivated self-starters. Utilizing all of the technology it takes to complete a challenging virtual degree can prepare them for the “modern workplace.” Employers like to see that most reputable online degrees offer hands-on opportunities where students gain real-world experience.

In conclusion, when looking for the right Online Master’s in Management degree program, make sure it is offered by an accredited university with a strong reputation and provides you with experiential learning opportunities. You will find that many employers will respect your degree.
