Founded in 1923 Lamar University is one of the fastest-growing universities in the state of Texas. The College of Business at Lamar University provides students with multiple AACSB-accredited options for undergraduate and graduate business degrees. The Princeton Review ranks Lamar’s COB among the top business schools in the nation.

Education

Lamar was one of only 16 schools to receive an A rating in the American Council of Trustees and Alumni’s study on core curriculum standards out of over 700 universities. 

The College of Business is comprised of four departments; Accounting and Business Law; Economics and Finance; Information Systems and Analysis; and Management and Marketing. Undergraduate majors include Accounting, Construction Management, Economics, Finance, Human Resources Management, Management Information Systems, Management, Marketing, and General Business. General Business majors can select a specialization in Advertising Communication, Entrepreneurship, Industrial Engineering, Retail Merchandising, or Construction Management. 

At the graduate level, students can earn an MBA or a Master’s of Science in Accounting or Management Information Systems. MBA concentrations offered on campus include Enterprise Resource Planning, Experiential Business and Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Healthcare Administration, Leadership, and Service Marketing and Management.

Student Life

With a student body that currently exceeds 15,000, Lamar offers affordable tuition, with over 2,000 scholarships, totaling more than $10 million awarded to Lamar students every year.

The MBA program at Lamar is highly rated. Graduate assistantships are available and cover the full cost of tuition, plus a monthly stipend in exchange for 20 hours of work on campus per week. Students can also gain practical work experience through an internship.

Outside of the classroom, students can get involved in 10 business-specific organizations, such as the American Marketing Association, National Association of Black Accountants, Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting, and the Student Advisory Council to the Dean. Short term study abroad excursions include China, Spain, France, and Costa Rica and Panama. Thanks to the generosity of the Steinhagen Global Fellows, graduate students can apply for study abroad scholarships. Lamar also offers an Entrepreneurship Lecture Series, featuring highly respected business figures. The Center for Advances in Port Management; Small Business Development Center; and the Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship all enable students to complete experiential learning projects, attend trainings and workshops, participate in research, and take part in special events.

Online Programs

Lamar University’s College of Business offers online undergraduate and graduate degrees. The MBA program can be completed in as few as 16-18 months, with classes offered online and in the evenings to accommodate the needs of working professionals. Students pursuing an online MBA can select a concentration in Construction Project Management, Criminal Justice Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, General Business, Healthcare Administration, Management, Marketing, or Port Management.
