Arizona State University is a comprehensive public research university based out of Tempe, Arizona. Located across five campuses in the Phoenix metropolitan area as well as four regional learning centers throughout the state, Arizona State University is the largest public university by enrollment in the country. Established in 1885 as the Territorial Normal School with the intention of training teachers to serve in the Arizona Territory, over time the school developed and grew, becoming the Arizona Normal School in 1896, the Tempe Normal School in 1901, the Arizona State Teachers College in 1929 and eventually the Arizona State University in 1958. Today, Arizona State University is a top ranking institution and was named the #1 “Most Innovative School” in the nation according to a U.S. News and World Report’s ranking.

Arizona State University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and has been so since 1931. More than 350 undergraduate majors are offered by the University as well as over 450 graduate degree and certificate programs. Student Life
Arizona State University has a total enrollment figure of approximately 52,000, including nearly 42,000 undergraduate students. On-campus student housing is offered with a variety options including freshman housing, upper division housing, gender inclusive housing, and family housing; summer housing options are also available.Arizona State University is home to a number of cherished traditions. Most popular among these are Tailgating parties before Sun Devil football games; Pat’s Run, an annual 4.2 walk/run around the Tempe campus in honor of former Sun Devil football star; the Palm Walk; Decorating the Grad Cap; Arizona State University’s mascot, Sparky, who can be seen roaming around nearly every sporting event held at the University; The Lantern Walk, one of the University’s oldest traditions at nearly 100-years strong; Homecoming; wearing Gold (one of the University’s colors) every Friday, a tradition started in 2003; and many others. As a member of the NCAA Division I-A, athletics play a major role in the University’s campus life. Arizona State University fields nearly two dozen varsity sports teams, nicknamed the Sun Devils, which compete in the Pac-12 Conference.
