The College of Business Administration gave out its first Bachelor of Business degree in 1935 and now has just over 3,300 students pursuing business degrees. Placing great importance on quality, integrity, responsibility, respect, individuality, and honesty, the College of Business Administration at Sam Houston State University aims to produce an excellent, student-centered, and comprehensive business education. The AACSB-accredited College of Business Administration offers selective degree programs at the Huntsville campus, The Woodlands Center, and online.

Education

The Department of General Business and Finance has two professors to recognize. Dr. Robert Stretcher was elected President to the nationally known research academy, the Academy of Economics and Finance. Dr. Geraldine Hynes received the Federation of Business Disciplines Outstanding Educator Award. Also, Associate Professor of Management, Dr. Joseph Kananaugh, was recognized as “Educator of the Year.”

Undergraduate fields of study include Finance, Management, General Business Administration, Entrepreneurship, Banking & Financial Institutions, International Business, and Management Information Systems. Students desiring a career as a PGA professional can pursue the four and a half year program to obtain a Bachelor of Business Administration with a specialization in PGA Golf Management, including an internship experience. When these students graduate, they will be able to become a Class “A” Member directly elected by The PGA of America. 

Graduate fields of study include a Master of Science in Accounting or Project Management, a Master of Business Administration, and an Executive MBA in Banking & Financial Institutions. Students can exclusively pursue the Master of Science in Accounting on the Huntsville campus. 

Student Life

There are numerous scholarships available to business students at all levels. One that has been giving students a chance to gain the education needed to achieve their goals and be successful is the Smith-Hutson Scholarship. This program has helped the financially challenged incoming freshman at Sam Houston State University for 22 years. There are numerous other types of resources available to students. 

There are great organizations to pursue, such as Alpha Kappa Psi, Banking and Finance Club, Beta Alpha Psi, Collegiate Entrepreneurs Organization, The Investment Club, Marketing Club, and COBA Ambassadors. The COBA Advisory Council exists to provide resources to develop business professionals and also to foster relationships and partnerships between the students and faculty of the school and the business community. 

Students receive real-world experience through simulations, projects, and innovative technology at the Sower Business Technology Lab. Important networking events include the Business Career Fair, Meet the Firms Night and the Internship Fair. The COBA offers many types of internships in government agencies, a variety of business industries, and accounting. Centers established to provide extensive experience outside of the classroom and to assist community businesses and leaders are the Center for Business and Economic Development, the Small Business Development Center, and the Center for Innovation & Technology.

Online Programs

Students can pursue many undergraduate majors fully online and additional undergraduate with some classroom or lab attendance requirements. The College of Business Administration offers a BBS degree in General Business Administration. It offers also offers a Master in Business Administration and Banking and Financial Institutions, EMBA. Many Graduate certificate programs and professional certifications are also available.
