The University of Northern Colorado’s Monfort College of Business has an esteemed reputation. The Office of the President of the US recognized it with a national quality award, and it was “the first and only business program” to receive this award. It is, therefore, committed to focusing on the student, useful research, excellence in teaching, personal attention, communication, service, and small class sizes. The business programs are AACSB-accredited and adequately prepare graduates to succeed in the rapidly evolving marketplace.

Education

The business curriculum is inundated with standards of ethics and integrity through the Daniel Funds Ethics Initiative that focuses on trust, fairness, accountability, respect, and transparency. Undergraduate students can enjoy studying for a Bachelors in Business Administration. The options of majors for the BBA degree are in Finance, Computer Information Systems, Management, Accounting, Marketing, and General Business. They can also partake in a separate Software Engineering degree through the College of Business’ joint endeavor with the College of Natural and Health Sciences. Graduate students can participate in the Master of Accounting or the online Master of Business Administration program. Every student is required to attend workshops on building a resume, professionalism, and interview preparation, or take part in an internship, to graduate. To extend their knowledge and international perspective, students have the advantage of choosing short-term educational trips to places like Italy, Europe, or Lithuania, or semester-long trips to places like Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Thailand, South Korea, Australia, or Canada.

Student Life

In the first year of college, freshmen have the beneficial opportunity to live on campus in dorms with other business students. This Business Residential Learning Community provides programming, events, study group opportunities, and faculty interaction for business students. There are also several clubs and organizations specifically for business students to get involved in such as Alpha Kappa Psi, Financial Management Association, Delta Sigma Pi, Management Club, Professional Accounting Association, Beta Alpha Psi, and Marketing Club.

Home to the College of Business, the $1 million Financial Education Center gives students an incredible place to learn through modernized classrooms, study spaces, social areas, conference space, technology labs, and a trading room. The Entrepreneurial Challenge is an annual event that inspires and awards money for the best new business idea. It is an outreach to include high schoolers, current Monfort students, local businesses, and the surrounding community. Another way for students to serve the community is through the UNC BizHub Collaborative, which offers free consulting and counseling to new and existing businesses.

Online Programs

The AACSB-accredited Master of Business Administration program offered through Monfort is entirely online. This helps provide an excellent education to those who are working professionals or have any other reason for not being able to attend on-campus classes. Online MBA students have the option to emphasize in Human Resources Management or Healthcare Administration.
