North Park University is a private, coeducational, Christian institution of higher education located in the state of Illinois on Chicago’s north side. Established in 1891, North Park University was founded by the Evangelical Covenant Church with which it is still associated. North Park University is a distinctively Christian university and is “committed to relating faith in Jesus Christ to the aims of higher education.” The University strives to engage its local community, neighborhood and city in ways that will enrich the life of its campus as well as connect students to the diverse people of Chicago who come from all over the globe.

Academic Programs

North Park University’s mission is to “prepare students for lives of significance and service through education in the liberal arts, professional studies, and theology.” The University’s vision, which builds upon its “core institutional identity – Christian, urban, intercultural – is to fashion a university of uncommon character and enduring excellence where faith, learning, and service meet.” North Park University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and has been so since 1926.

North Park University offers more than 40 undergraduate majors and programs in the liberal arts and sciences including pre-professional programs including law, medicine, and art therapy. Nursing, Business/ Economics, Biology, Exercise Science have proven to be some of the University’s most popular majors. North Park University also offers several graduate studies in areas such as business and nonprofit management, counseling psychology, education, music and nursing and offers a variety of degree programs which may be earned entirely online or in blended formats.

Student Life

North Park University has a total enrollment figure of more than 3,000, including over 2,000 undergraduate students. More than 40% identify as students of colors and there is no racial or ethnic majority among students, as no particular group – including Caucasian – reaches above 50%. Approximately 45% of students choose to live on campus; North Park offers nearly 300 dormitory rooms on campus with 150-plus additional Chicago-style apartments which are offered as on-campus housing.

North Park University recognizes a variety of student clubs and activities and offers student care and wellness programs, as well as recreational events and sports clubs. These and other campus events and activities provide ample opportunity for students to interact with one another outside of the classroom setting, building valuable friendships and connections and developing leadership skills. Students are also highly encouraged to volunteer within the community – nearly 14,000 community members have been served by North Park University’s student volunteers annually. An NCAA Division III school, North Park University’s teams compete in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.
