For many students, the biggest worry about getting a college education comes from figuring out how they are going to afford their tuition and other related college expenses. It’s no secret that the cost of a college education has grown dramatically over the past few years. While the cost of college has increased substantially, so has the need for a college degree. In order to ensure a secure and lucrative career, most students will choose to pursue a college education. As degrees become more common in the workplace it is important that students find a way to fund a college education. While many students turn to loans, these same students often times overlook the vast amount of money that is being given away to college students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of the best ways to help students combat the rising costs of a college education is to apply for scholarship money. Each year, it is estimated that approximately $46 billion of scholarship is awarded to students throughout the United States. This is a huge amount of money going to students to help them fund their education. And the best part of scholarship money is that it’s free. Free money to help students pay for their education. Whether given out based on financial needs or academic performance, this scholarship money is just out there waiting for students to claim it. Through scholarships, students may be able to gain the college education that they never even dreamed of having. And all it takes is to simply apply for the scholarships and wait to see if you have been accepted into their programs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But with so many scholarships available, students might find it overwhelming to find the ones worth applying for. With so many options, how does a student know which scholarship is worth their time? At College Consensus, we’ve worked to compile a list of the biggest scholarships available to anyone. Every scholarship on this list is available to students with minimal restrictions. Students seeking out scholarships offering the most money can start with this ranking of the biggest scholarships available.<\/p>\n<\/a> The Levine Scholars program is an organization founded by Sandra and Leon Levine. Natives of Charlotte, North Carolina, Sandra and Leon Levine grew up in Charlotte to become major staples of the Charlotte community. Leon Levine began founding Family Dollar stores at age 22, eventually growing the brand to national prominence. Sandra Levine became integral to the Charlotte community as she served various positions across different community organizations, eventually becoming the Board of Commissioners at Carolinas Healthcare System. Through their immense success, the Levine family has amassed a large amount of wealth that they have worked tirelessly to invest back into the community.<\/p>\n Partnering with the University of North Carolina Charlotte, the Levine family began the Levine Scholars Program as one of the biggest scholarships in the country. Through the Levine Scholars Program, the Levine family would accept applications from people from all walks of life to become beneficiaries of the Levine Scholars Program. Through the Levine Scholars Program, students are awarded a four-year scholarship to the University of North Carolina Charlotte. This includes full tuition, room, board, as well as a grant for summer service projects. The total value of this entire scholarship package is $155,000. This scholarship is awarded to approximately twenty incoming freshmen every single year. By working with young adults, the National Inventors Hall of Fame hopes to inspire today’s youth to imagine the inventions that will change the world for the better.<\/p>\n The National Inventors Hall of Fame sponsors the Collegiate Inventors Competition, a national contest that offers a variety of different scholarship packages to the winners of the competition. One of the biggest scholarships in the country, The Collegiate Inventors Competition has students from across the nation competing to pitch their inventions. Students are given the opportunity to showcase their talents for invention. Chosen by a panel of prestigious inventors, scholarships are awarded to students with the best inventions. The top prize for students competing in the Collegiate Inventors Competition is currently $100,000. Sponsored by Dr. Pepper, the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway has been going on for almost a decade. Through this program, hundreds of students have been awarded scholarships to allow them to pursue their education goals. Wanting to provide a way to help students without the means gain a college education, Dr. Pepper started the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway to award people from all backgrounds the opportunity to demonstrate why they deserve to have a higher education and why Dr. Pepper should offer them money to pursue their goals.<\/p>\n The Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway contest is open to all students making it one of the biggest scholarships in the country. To enter for this scholarship, students must submit a Goal to the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway. This Goal can be anything as long as it demonstrates a desire to change the world. Throughout the duration of the contest, students must provide updates showing their steps towards reaching that goal. Throughout the duration of the Dr. Pepper Tuition Giveaway, students will provide a video presenting their pitch for the scholarship. Dr. Pepper will choose twenty total winners, five of which will be awarded a $100,000 scholarship to the university or college of their choosing. the additional fifteen winners will receive\u00a0prizes ranging from $2,500- $25,000.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Ronald McDonald House Charity is an international charity dedicated to helping millions of families across the globe. Locally within the United States, the Ronald McDonald House Charity has chapters located throughout the entire country. In partnership with McDonald’s, the Ronald McDonald House Charity association has been able to raise millions of dollars for families all over the country. Primarily developed to help families gain access to healthcare for their children and help alleviate the financial strain of medical expenses, the Ronald McDonald House Charity organization has also begun to help families pay for college tuition. Through their large organization of local chapters, the Ronald McDonald House Charity has raised millions of dollars for a variety of charitable purposes including scholarships.<\/p>\n The Ronald McDonald House Charity US Scholarships program is a program for students to earn merit-based scholarships through the Ronald McDonald House Charity program. One of the biggest scholarships in the country, Students are able to apply for a scholarship from the Ronald McDonald House Charity program that can be applied towards a college or university education at any school of their choosing. Accepting students from all backgrounds, the Ronald McDonald House Charity awards scholarships to students based upon merit and service to the community. Through the Thiel Fellowship, many students have been afforded the opportunity to pursue their education while also pursuing new innovative technologies.<\/p>\n The Thiel Fellowship is more than just a $100,000 grant. Students who win the Thiel Fellowship enter a two-year program that helps teach young people to build new things. Students in the Thiel Fellowship will be given access to the Thiel Foundation’s network of investors, scientists, and founders. One of the biggest scholarships in the country, the Thiel Fellowship affords students the once in a lifetime opportunity to access a high-quality education in invention and entrepreneurship without going into major debt. Students who win the Thiel Fellowship are given $100,000 to spend however they’d like as well as a two-year program to help them develop their own new product, company, or service.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> Offered by Brandeis University, the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship is named in honor of Leonard Bernstein. One of the founding members of the arts community at Brandeis University, Leonard Bernstein became an integral part of the Brandeis University community and helped to build the chamber music program to what it is today. Wanting to ensure that talented musicians from across the country would be able to gain access to a high-quality musical education, the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship was established in order to provide scholarships for talented musicians who might not otherwise be able to afford the tuition prices or other related expenses that accompany a college education.<\/p>\n The Leonard Bernstein Fellowship offers students $82,000 over four-years to those who win the scholarship. As one of the biggest scholarships in the country, the \u00a0Leonard Bernstein Fellowship is awarded to a handful of vocalists and instrumentalists. Those who win the Leonard Bernstein Fellowship will also become part of elite vocal and chamber ensembles as well as the opportunity to have access to special private lessons and performance opportunities. The Leanard Bernstein Fellowship is open to any student and requires that students must audition for a position in the program. By gaining a position in the program, students are also earning $82,000 in tuition assistance.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The National Institutes of Health is the nation’s medical research agency. Part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the National Institutes of Health is an organization dedicated to leading the research and studies needed to make major steps towards promoting the health of the public. Working with a variety of different healthcare institutions, the National Institutes of Health works to provide the funding and support to scientists as they work to make advancements in medicine and disease prevention. Comprised of twenty-seven different components, the National Institutes of Health works tirelessly to use its government funding to be a supportive force for scientists and researchers.<\/p>\n The National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program is a merit-based scholarship program. Through the National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship Program, students are given $20,000 per academic year that can be put towards their education. Students are also given paid research training at the National Institutes of Health over the summer as well as paid employment and training at the National Institutes of Health after graduation. This program is open to all students within the United States. Students who earn the National Institutes of Health Undergraduate Scholarship can earn up to $80,000 in scholarship to the university or college of their choosing through one of the biggest scholarships available.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Administration for Community Living is a government organization dedicated to focusing attention and resources on the aging American population. \u00a0Through the Administration of Aging, the Administration on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, and the HHS Office on Disability, the Administration for Community Living leverages these different organizations to funnel their resources into different outreach programs for communities across the United States. Working to solve the problem of providing care to older Americans, the Administration for Community Living coordinates and funds a variety of programs aimed towards working with the elderly and the disabled. Through the work of the Administration for Community Living, it is hoped that we can extend the lifespan of our elderly and provide them with a better quality of life.<\/p>\n The Mary Switzer Research Fellowship is a program run by the Administration for Community Living. Through the Mary Switzer Research Fellowship, individuals who are engaging in scientific research that is related to the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities are awarded grant money to be used towards their education. Meant for students working towards graduate level degrees, the Mary Switzer Research Fellowship awards money to all students as long as they are working towards research goals related to the rehabilitation of those with disabilities. Students who are awarded the Mary Switzer Research Fellowship will be awarded $75,000 in tuition assistance.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Augustana Academic Scholarship is awarded to students through Augustana. A comprehensive university located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Augustana is committed to offering its students affordable ways to gain an education. One of the ways that Augustana works to ensure that students can attend the University without incurring large amounts of debt is through a robust scholarship program. Students at Augustana are able to apply for a variety of different grants and scholarships offered by the school. These scholarships provide varying levels of aid based upon different levels of criteria. Augustana allows students to apply for all of the available scholarships through one common form. This one application for all of their available scholarships provides a much more streamlined application process than some of the other biggest scholarships available.<\/p>\n The Augustana Academic Scholarship is one of the most prestigious scholarships available to students at Augustana. Available to any students who are applying to Augustana, the Augustana Academic Scholarship is based upon academic achievement prior to their enrollment in Augustana. Through the selection process for this scholarship, students are examined based on their academic achievement, extra-curricular activities, and other related criteria. If selected for this scholarship, students are awarded between $10,000- $18,000. This scholarship is renewable each year, adding up to a total possible scholarship of $72,000 for the duration of their education at Augustana. Through this scholarship, students are able to gain a great education without risk of incurring massive student debt.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship is offered to students at Florida Atlantic University. Created by The William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust, the Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship was established to help extraordinary students attend the university without experiencing large amounts of student debt. Named for noted Florida Atlantic University alum\u00a0Henry Morrison Flagler, the Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship program is actually run by his brother-in-law William R. Kenan, Jr. Wanting to work with the brightest minds, the William R. Kenan, Jr. Charitable Trust began amassing money to provide these scholarships to students each and every year. With the primary goal of helping students receive a debt-free education, the William R. Kenan Jr. Charitable Trust established this scholarship.<\/p>\n The Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship is one of the biggest scholarships available. Offered to students who have been accepted to Florida Atlantic University, the Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship is a full merit award. Students who are eligible for a Florida Bright Futures Scholarship are able to apply for the Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship. Students are selected for this scholarship based off of the following criteria: Leadership, Scholarship, Integrity, Courage, and Vigor. By excelling in those five categories students can prove their worthiness and be selected for the Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship. Students who have been selected for the Henry Morrison Flagler Scholarship are awarded a full-ride to Florida Atlantic University which is worth $72,000.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> Offered through Eastern Michigan University, the Eastern Michigan University Presidential Scholarship is a scholarship awarded to students through the Presidential Scholarship Competition. Created by Eastern Michigan University, the Eastern Michigan University Presidential Scholarship was designed in order to reward incoming freshmen who are exceptionally gifted. Using funds allocated by the President of the Eastern Michigan University, the Eastern Michigan University Presidential Scholarship was created to\u00a0help those who have been admitted to the university to gain tuition assistance to help those students fund their education.<\/p>\n The Eastern Michigan University Presidential Scholarship Competition is available to students across the United States. Having already been admitted to Eastern Michigan University, students who are looking to compete in the Presidential Scholarship Competition must submit an essay as well as undergo a personal interview at Eastern Michigan University. Through a review of the entrant’s essay, academic standing, and extracurricular activities, twenty-one recipients will be determined. Offered annually, twenty-one students will be given a full-ride to Eastern Michigan University which is valued at $85,000 across the four years of their education making it one of the biggest scholarships available.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Francis Ouimet Scholarship is offered by the Ouimet Fund. The Ouimet Fund was created to act as a charity for those working in professional golf. Based out of Massachusetts, the Ouimet Fund is named to honor Francis Ouimet, one of America’s first professional golfers. Since its founding, the Ouimet Fund has grown to become one of the biggest scholarships available to students. Currently, the Ouimet Fund is the largest independent scholarship fund in all of New England. Through charity events, the Ouimet Fund has been able to raise money to be used to help students fund their education. The Ouimet Fund hopes that through its charitable contributions that it can continue to promote the character-building aspects of golf in the tradition of Francis Ouimet.<\/p>\n The Francis Ouimet Scholarship is available to all students. Since its creation in 1949, 5,749 individuals have been the recipient of funding from the scholarship. In total, over $33 million has been awarded to students. Last year alone, 345 students received money through this program totaling in over $2 million in contributions last year. For students who are looking to apply for the Francis Ouimet Scholarship, they must submit an application that outlines their academic achievements. In order to apply for this application, students must have worked in the golf industry at some point prior to their application. If selected for this scholarship, students can be awarded up to $60,000 for their education. This massive contribution allows students to gain an education without incurring large amounts of debt.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The TEDS Academic Scholarship is offered by Trinity International University. Committed to offering students ways to lower the cost of their education, Trinity International University offers students a variety of different scholarship programs. Raising money through its alumni network, Trinity International University has worked to raise money that can then be used for students looking to enroll in the school. Through this effort, Trinity International University has instituted a very comprehensive scholarship program. Students at Trinity International University are able to enroll in scholarships that pay between 14% and 100% of their college education. One of the biggest scholarships available, the TEDS Academic Scholarship is one of the best scholarships offered to students at Trinity International University.<\/p>\n The TEDS Academic Scholarship is awarded to students based upon their academic achievement. In order to qualify for the TEDS Academic Scholarship, students must have at least a 3.5 GPA prior to applying for the scholarship. Students also must have demonstrated their potential for leadership and have completed ministerial work. The TEDS Academic Scholarship is open to any students who are interested in pursuing a Master of Divinity degree. Students who win this scholarship will have 100% of their degree costs covered by Trinity International University. The value of this scholarship is equivalent to $15,000 a year which totals out to $60,000 a year overall. This scholarship program affords students the ability to gain a quality education despite their socioeconomic background. By earning this scholarship, students do not need to fear crippling student debt.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Burger King Scholars program was founded by the Burger King McLamore Foundation. Created in memory of James W. McLamore, the co-founder of Burger King, the Burger King McLamore Foundation is dedicated to helping high school students and families across North America. Founded in 2000, the Burger King McLamore Foundation has been raising money to help families and students achieve their academic goals. James W. McLamore was a staunch believer that a higher education was an invaluable asset to the future of any person. Early on in James W. McLamore’s career, James expressed a desire to create a charity in order to provide those students from different socioeconomic backgrounds the support they need to get the education that they deserve. Through the founding of the Burger King McLamore Foundation came the creation of the Burger King Scholars program.<\/p>\n The Burger King Scholars Program is one of the biggest scholarships around. Since the creation of the Burger King Scholars Program, the Burger King McLamore Foundation has awarded over $32 million dollars in scholarships to over 30,000 high school students. Just last year, over 3,200 students received a combined $3.5 million in scholarships. The Burger King Scholars Program is based on merit and needs. Students who apply for the Burger King Scholars Program are meant to set a Goal that they plan to achieve in order to earn their scholarship. According to the Burger King McLamore Foundation, students are selected based on their GPA< work experience, extracurricular activities, and community service. Awarding money to thousands of students each year, the Burger King Scholars program awards amounts ranging from $1000 all the way up to $50,000.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Davidson Fellows Scholarship was established by the Davidson Institute. In 1999, the Davidson Institute was founded by the Davidsons. The Davidsons were a group of software developers who had initially founded Davidson & Associates Inc. Davidson & Associates Inc. had experienced major financial success in the mid-90s through the development and publication of its immensely popular educational software. In 1997, the Davidsons decided to sell Davidson & Associates Inc. This sale was motivated by the desire to establish a philanthropy organization that would work with gifted students to help provide them with the support that they need. This led to the creation of the Davidson Institute. Through the Davidson Institute, the Davidsons were able to establish a variety of different programs to help students including the Davidson Fellows Scholarship.<\/p>\n The Davidson Fellows Scholarship is a scholarship created for some of the sharpest minds in the country. Available to all students under the age of 18, the Davidson Fellows Scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate that they are gifted and talented. When applying for the Davidson Fellows Scholarship, students must submit an application that includes a significant piece of work that they have created. This piece of work can fall into the following categories: Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, Literature, Music, Philosophy, and Outside the Box. The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards students either a $10,000, $25,000, or a $50,000 scholarship that can be applied to the university or college of their choosing. Those students who are selected are also invited to attend a special celebration in Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Elks National Foundation Scholarship program is one of the biggest scholarships available to students in the United States. Established by the Elks National Foundation, the Elks National Foundation Scholarship program is a continuation of the Elks National Foundation\u2019s efforts to support the many communities that the organization has become an integral part of. Established in 1868, the Elks National Foundation was created in order to bring communities together. Building Elks Lodges across the United States, the Elks National Foundation\u2019s goal was to create a place that a community could be formed around. Providing a facility for neighbors to meet and share meals and raise their children, the Elks National Foundation has become an integral part of many different communities. This desire to support local communities helped spur the creation of the Elks National Foundations Scholarship<\/p>\n The Elks National Foundation Scholarship program is a merit-based scholarship available to 500 recipients. Every year, Elks National Foundation selects the top-500 students to be recipients of the Elks National Foundation Scholarship. Totaling almost $2.5 million in scholarships, the Elks National Foundation Scholarship selects its recipients based upon their academic standing, their capacity for leadership, and extracurricular and service activities. Students who apply for the Elks National Foundation Scholarship do not need to be members of the Elks. The Elks National Foundation selects 480 runners-up who are awarded $4,000 scholarships. Fourteen fourth-place winners are selected who each received a $20,000 scholarship. Two third-place winners receive a $30,000 scholarship, two second-place winners each receive a $40,000 scholarship, and finally, two first-place winners are selected for a $50,000 scholarship to the college or university of their choosing.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The National Geographic Bee Scholarship is one of the biggest scholarships and one of the most popular scholarships. Created by the National Geographic Society, the National Geographic Bee has grown to become one of the most recognizable scholarship competitions available. The National Geographic Society was established in 1888 and is now one of the largest non-profit scientific and educational institutions in the entire world. Founded by Gardiner Greene Hubbard, the National Geographic Society was created with the simple goal of promoting our environmental and historical conservation. Over the years, the National Geographic Society has grown to become one of the main forces for cultural preservation having spent decades studying geography, archaeology, the natural sciences and much more. The National Geographic Society also takes part in many philanthropic activities, one of which is the National Geographic Bee Scholarship.<\/p>\n The National Geographic Bee Scholarship is one of the most widely recognizable scholarship programs in existence. One of the largest quiz bees in the nation, the National Geographic Bee takes place in over 54 different states and territories. Students from across these different locations compete in regional tournaments to test their education and knowledge. Those students who win at the regional level move along through the competition until they eventually reach the National Geographic Bee Championship. Televised live across the world, students compete for a variety of different prizes. The first place prize for the National Geographic Bee Championship is a lifetime membership to the National Geographic Society, an all-expenses-paid trip to the Galapagos Islands and a $50,000 scholarship. Second-place receives a $25,000 scholarship and third-place receives $10,000.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The EPP Undergraduate Scholarship program is offered to students by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association. Part of the United States Department of Commerce, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association is a key scientific agency within the United States government. As part of the United States government, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association works to study our climate, weather, oceans, and coasts. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association serves such key functions as providing daily weather storms, monitoring severe storms, and providing climate monitoring services. This organization also performs coastal restorations as well as support for the United States’ marine commerce. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association also works to invest in the future by providing the EPP Undergraduate Scholarship program.<\/p>\n The EPP Undergraduate Scholarship program is offered to any student which helps to make it one of the biggest scholarships available. To apply for the EPP Undergraduate Scholarship program students must have at least a 3.2 GPA and are applying for a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics fields. Students who are selected for this scholarship will be offered paid summer internships at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association will also provide students with $45,000 in scholarship money for their education. Through this scholarship program students will not only recieve financial support but also get valuable work experience that will translate to their career beyond college.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/a> The Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development is awarded by the Odebrecht Organization. Founded in Brazil, the Odebrecht Organization is conglomerate of different businesses that pertain to petrochemicals, chemicals, construction, and engineering.\u00a0 <\/span>With partners around the globe, the Odebrecht Organization is working to be at the forefront of the latest in chemical and energy solutions. The Odebrecht Organization is comprised of Odebrecht – the engineering and construction arm, Braskem – the chemicals and petrochemicals arm, as well as Odebrecht Environmental, Odebrecht Latinvest, Odebrecht Agroindustrial, Odebrecht Real Estate, and Odebrect Transport. Odebrecht Organization has grown to become one of the largest multinational corporations in the world and in doing so has made sure that it also works to use its wealth to give back.<\/p>\n The Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development is one of the biggest scholarships available. Made available to students in the United States, as well as Angola, Argentina, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Mexico, Panama, Peru, and Venezuela, the Odebrecht Award for Sustainable Development is one of the most widely available scholarships.
