Located in Conway, Arkansas, University of Central Arkansas is a public, state-run institution and the fourth largest university by enrollment in the state as well as the third largest college system in Arkansas. Highly respected for its programs in the areas of Education, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy, the University of Central Arkansas (commonly abbreviated UCA) began in 1907 as a teachers college. Created by the Arkansas State Legislature as the Arkansas State Normal School, its purpose was to properly educate teachers and to centralize the state’s teacher training. As the school grew, so did its scope and in 1967 the new name of State College of Arkansas was adopted in order to better reflect the new mission of the college which had expanded to include liberal arts studies and health care. In 1975 UCA achieved university status.
