Stonehill College is a private, coeducational, Catholic institution located in Easton, Massachusetts, between the cities of Boston and Providence. Established in 1948, Stonehill College was founded by the Congregation of the Holy Cross with the Rev. George P. Benaglia, C.S.C. appointed as the College’s first president. Stonehill College continues to be affiliated with the Congregation of the Holy Cross; members of the Congregation share in the institution’s mission, serving in the roles of administrators, faculty members and campus ministers. Stonehill College takes a holistic approach and is guided by the principles of education and faith. The College has received national recognition for its international study and intern abroad programs and was named one of the best in the nation when it comes to “value, outcomes and a commitment to making the world a better place”.
Academic Programs
Stonehill College’s mission is to educate “the whole person so that each Stonehill graduate thinks, acts, and leads with courage toward the creation of a more just and compassionate world.” The College’s mission statement also declares that, “Through its curriculum of liberal arts and sciences and pre-professional programs, Stonehill College provides an education of the highest caliber that fosters critical thinking, free inquiry and the interchange of ideas.”Stonehill College offers approximately 40 majors and over 45 minors in the areas of humanities, arts, natural and social sciences, business, education, and pre-professional advising programs. All classes are taught by faculty members and more than 90% of students participate in internships, study abroad, research practicum or fieldwork. Stonehill College is accredited through the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and has been so since 1959. The College is also a member of the Association for American Colleges and Universities, the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universities, and The Council for Independent Colleges, as well as a number of other organizations and associations.
Student Life
Stonehill College has a total enrollment figure of nearly 2,500, all of whom are undergraduate students. The male to female ratio Stonehill College is approximately 3 to 2, with female students outnumbering males; at least 14% of students identify as students of color. The vast majority of students (more than 90%) choose to live on campus; housing in one of Stonehill College’s residence halls is guaranteed to all students for the entirety of their four-year stay.Stonehill College recognizes a variety of active student-led clubs and organizations – including nearly a dozen intercollegiate teams – which cater to a wide range of academic, professional and personal interests. These and other campus evens provide opportunity for students to interact with one another outside of the classroom setting and allow them to gain experience in leadership roles and positions. An NCAA Division II school, Stonehill College’s varsity athletic teams compete in the Northeast-10 Conference.
