Stevens Institute of Technology is a private, 4-year school located in Hoboken, NJ, along the Hudson River across from Manhattan, NY. Founded in 1868 and named for a family of accomplished inventors, Stevens is one of the oldest technological universities in the country and was the first college solely dedicated to mechanical engineering. John Stevens successfully reverse engineered the British steam locomotive to American standards for manufacture in the United States; one of his sons, Robert Stevens, developed the flanged T rail which is still in use today. The Stevens family oversaw the transition of Hoboken from a farm to a metropolis. The 55 acre campus contains a surprising amount of trees in a park-like environment and features the historic Edwin A Stevens Building – a castle-like mansion – and contemporary architecture.

Stevens Institute of Technology is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and offers Bachelor’s degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s degrees and Doctorates in over 30 fields of study.
