Rivier College is a private, co-educational Catholic college and the oldest institution of higher education located in Nashua, New Hampshire. Established in 1933, Rivier College was founded by the Sisters of the Presentation of Mary and Sister Madeleine of Jesus and named in honor of Blessed Anne Marie Rivier. As a Catholic institution, Rivier College’s core mission is to be “dedicated to transforming hearts and minds to serve the world.” Rivier College has endeavored to remain faithful to its original purpose of “educating the whole person” and has been recognized for its development of programs which ”serve the needs of both traditional and nontraditional age individuals.”

Academic Programs

Rivier College is fully accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, Inc. (NEASC) and offers undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degrees that are availablenin both day and evening courses through on-campus, online, and hybrid formats. Rivier College’s academic departments are sorted into four divisions, including the Division of Arts and Sciences; the Division of Education; the Division of Nursing and Health Professions; and Division of Business. Rivier College’s Division of Arts and Sciences is the broadest of its divisions, and includes the departments of Biology; Chemistry; English; History, Political Science & Criminal Justice; Mathematics & Computer Science; Modern Languages; Philosophy; Psychology; Religious Studies; Sociology, and Liberal Studies Program.

With more than 60 programs leading to associate, bachelors, and master’s degrees, Rivier College also boasts the first Doctor of Education and the first combined Doctor of Psychology degrees in the state of New Hampshire. Students have complete access to the recently expanded and renovated Regina Library which features approximately 90,00 volumes, more than 45,000 e-books, an extensive inter-library loan program, and online access to more than 100 licensed research databases in the academic subjects covered by the Rivier curriculum.

Student Life

Rivier College’s student population includes more than 700 undergraduate day students and over 1,000 graduate students. Rivier College’s student body is also comprised of several international students who hail from countries such as Bangladesh, China, India, Iran, Kenya, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, and Uzbekistan. Four residence halls offer on campus housing and can accommodate up to approximately 420 students. A variety of student-led clubs and organizations exist and Rivier College’s Student Activities and Orientation Office offers a number of educational, recreational, social, and entertainment programs and services. Students are also free to volunteer through and benefit from Rivier College’s Campus ministry which offers pastoral counseling, retreats, Bible study, interfaith networking, Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, outreach to the needy on the local, national, and international levels.

Rivier College’s intercollegiate sports teams compete at the NCAA Division III level and the school is a member of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC). Rivier College’s athletic teams include women’s volleyball, field hockey, lacrosse, basketball, softball, cross-country, and soccer as well as men’s baseball, basketball, cross-country, lacrosse, soccer, and volleyball.
