Monmouth University is a private, 4-year school located in West Long Branch, NJ, just one mile from the northern Jersey Shore. The school was founded in 1933 as a Junior College, the school was known as Monmouth College in 1956. The school achieved University status in 1995. The 150 acre campus features a blend of architecture and multiple quads and open spaces. Noted for Wilson Hall, a mansion occupied by President Wilson in 1916 and later owned by FW Woolworth Company owner Hubert Parson, the building is on the National Register of Historic places. Today, it is used for classrooms and administrative offices; it was used as Daddy Warbuck’s residence in the 1980 version of “Annie”. Notable alumni include Olympic Gold Medalist Wendy Boglioli and Jersey Shore creator Anthony Beltempo.

Academic Programs

Monmouth University is accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education and offers Bachelor’s degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s degrees, post-masters Certificates and Doctorates in over 45 programs. Noted for Nursing and Teacher Education, the largest program on campus is in Business. The University is comprised of eight schools: Leon Hess Business School; School of Education; Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Marjorie K. Unterberg School of Nursing and Health Studies; School of Science; School of Social Work; Honors School; and Graduate Studies. The University also contains 5 Centers of Distinction: Center for the Arts, Monmouth University Polling Institute, Kislak Real Estate Institute, Urban Coast Institute and the Institute for Global Understanding. Per the Mission Statement, “Monmouth University is an independent, comprehensive institution of higher education committed to excellence and integrity in teaching, scholarship, and service. Through its offerings in liberal arts, science, and professional programs, Monmouth University educates and prepares students to realize their potential as leaders and to become engaged citizens in a diverse and increasingly interdependent world.”

Student Life

There are approximately 4,700 undergraduate students enrolled in Monmouth University, many of whom live on campus among the more than 15 residence halls and living communities. The school sponsors nearly 100 clubs and student organizations, including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the midnight blue and white Hawks field teams in 11 sports and participate in NCAA Division I competition.
