In the Pocono Mountains of northeastern Pennsylvania is Scranton, home to Marywood University. Founded in 1915 by the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary as a women’s college, this private, 4-year school enjoys the local environment with picturesque mountain vistas, fall colors and winter sports nearby. Marywood, a Catholic university, sits on 115 acres of grounds tht are also designated as an arboretum with over 100 types of trees and shrubs in the collection. Its many paths, common areas and gardens offer a truly natural backdrop for reflection, meditation and study. Marywood started admitting male students in 1989. Among the notable alumni of Marywood is former MSNBC presenter Colette Cassidy.
