Marquette University is a private, 4-year school located in Milwaukee, WI. Founded in 1881 and named for 17th century missionary and explorer Father Jacques Marquette; the school was originally founded as a men’s school, it became the first co-ed Catholic University in 1909. Marquette is a member of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities and is the largest private university in Wisconsin. The 90+ acre metropolitan campus is set in the University Hill neighborhood and features a blend of architectural styles ranging from traditional collegiate Gothic to modern, art deco and contemporary. The campus is also in close proximity to Lake Michigan. Among the many notable alumni of Marquette is actor/comedian Chris Farley.

Academic Programs

Marquette University is accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, The Higher Learning Commission and offers Bachelor’s Degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s Degrees, post-masters Certificates and Doctorates in over 90 fields. The university is comprised of 11 colleges and schools: Klingler College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business Administration, Diederich College of Communication, College of Education, Opus College of Engineering, College of Health Sciences, College of Nursing, Graduate School, School of Dentistry, Graduate School of Management and Law School. While recognized for several medical fields as well as Theatre and Teacher Education, the largest programs on campus are in Business and Biology/Biomedical fields. Per the Mission Statement, “Our mission, therefore, is the search for truth, the discovery and sharing of knowledge, the fostering of personal and professional excellence, the promotion of a life of faith, and the development of leadership expressed in service to others. All this we pursue for the greater glory of God and the common benefit of the human community.”

Student Life

There are over 8,400 undergraduate students enrolled in Marquette University, many of whom live on campus among the several large residence halls. There are also over 230 clubs and student organizations including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the Marquette blue and gold Golden Eagles field teams in 7 sports and participate in NCAA Division I competition. The university’s stated vision incudes the goal to be recognized among the most innovative and accomplished Catholic and Jesuit universities in the world, promoting the greater glory of God and the well-being of humankind.
