Lycoming College is a private, four-year, liberal arts undergraduate college located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Affiliated with the United Methodist Church, Lycoming College was established in 1812 as the Williamsport Academy and is one of the fifty oldest colleges in the United States. By the 1840, Williamsport’s curriculum included English, Writing, Arithmetic, Geography, Chemistry, Natural Philosophy, Mathematics, Latin, and Greek. Around this period, the school fell upon hard times financially and a group of Methodists led by Rev. Benjamin Crever purchased the Academy, renaming it Williamsport Dickinson Seminary. By 1929 the school added a junior college, the first of its kind in Pennsylvania, and in 1947 following World War II, the school emerged as Lycoming College.
