Georgetown College is a private, Christian liberal arts institution located in Georgetown, Kentucky. Georgetown College holds the distinction of being the first Baptist college founded west of the Allegheny Mountains. The school’s beginning dates back to 1829 when a Frankfort lawyer, jurist, and minister, Silas Noel, led a petition for the Kentucky legislature to charter the Kentucky Baptist Education Society. The College’s mission is “to prepare students to engage in their life’s pursuits with thoughtfulness and skills by providing an exceptional educational experience in a vibrant Christian community.” As a Christian institution, Georgetown College remains strongly committed to “following practices as a college that demonstrate the virtues of faith, hope, and love.”

Academic Programs

Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, Georgetown College awards both Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Science degrees at the undergraduate level. More than 30 undergraduate programs and minors are offered through the school’s several academic departments which include: Art; Biology; Business Administration & Economics; Chemistry; Communication and Media Studies; Education; English; History; Kinesiology and Health Studies; Mathematics, Physics and Computer Science; Modern and Classical Languages and Cultures; Music; Philosophy; Political Science; Psychology; Religion; Sociology; and Theatre & Film. A Master of Arts in Education degree is also offered in both face-to-face and online formats. Georgetown College’s graduate education program follows a seven-week-long course schedule and is offered to students with or without teaching licenses.

Georgetown College students are also given a number of options and ways to serve the in the community and surrounding areas and well as overseas. A variety of mission trips, local service projects, and social justice organizations are available, ranging from orientation service projects to alternate Spring Break missions trips and initiatives with the Student Abolitionist Movement.

Student Life

More than 1,200 students make up Georgetown College’s total enrollment figure, including nearly 1,000 undergraduate students. The College’s undergraduate population is made up of 48% male students and 52% female, with a 21% minority group representation. Over a dozen traditional residence halls offer students housing on Georgetown College’s main campus and over 90% of students choose to live on-campus. Housing options include at least nine social organization halls and two townhouse-style residence halls; a few apartment style living arrangements are also available. A variety of student led club, service and social organizations exist on Georgetown College’s campus, including fine arts organizations, honors organization, interest groups, student government, and fraternities and sororities.

Georgetown College’s athletic teams compete at the NAIA Division I level and the school is a member of Mid-South Conference. The school’s varsity teams include basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, track and field, women’s lacrosse, softball, and volleyball, and men’s baseball.
