Belmont University, located in Nashville, Tennessee, is a private, coeducational, Christian liberal arts institution. Situated on an historic 75-acre campus just two miles southwest of downtown Nashville, the school occupies the land that, in the mid-1800’s was known as the Belle Mont estate and served as the Victorian home to one of Tennessee’s wealthiest couples, the Acklens. The Belmont Mansion still remains today and is flanked by university buildings, though it remains the oldest piece of architecture on the property by at least a century. Established in 1890, Belmont University is a top ranking school and has been named one of the “Most Innovative”. The university is committed to “being a leader among teaching universities” with a purpose to “help students explore their passions and develop their talents to meet the world’s needs.”

Academic Programs

Accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools since 1959, Belmont University offers a wide range of degrees ranging from the undergraduate level to doctoral. The school is made up of several colleges and schools, including the Jack C. Massey College of Business; College of Liberal Arts & Social Sciences; the Mike Curb College of Entertainment & Music Business; College of Pharmacy; the Gordon E. Inman College of Health & Nursing; Interdisciplinary Studies & Global Education; College of Sciences & Mathematics; College of Law; College of Theology & Christian Ministry; and the College of Visual & Performing Arts.

In addition to its 90+ areas of undergraduate study and more than 25 master’s and five doctorate programs, Belmont University also offers Adult Degree Programs in areas such as Accounting, General Business, Liberal Studies, Ministry, Public Relations Management, RN-BSN and Social Work. In addition, undergraduate students are given a whole host of service learning opportunities to choose from, as well as several study-abroad programs. Different opportunities are often presented to different majors, and Belmont students have been involved in tutoring in local schools; participating in the Belmont/YMCA Latino Achievers program; providing health fairs and more.

Student Life

More than 8,000 students are enrolled at Belmont University – nearly 6,500 of whom are undergraduates. All fifty states and more than 36 countries are represented in the student body. Belmont offers students a couple of different housing options in their residential communities. A number of residential halls are reserved for freshman students exclusively while upperclassmen are typically housed in apartments, apartment-style or suite-style halls.

Belmont boasts more than 180 student-led clubs, organizations and groups and well over a dozen NCAA Division I athletic teams. Student groups range from intramural sports, faith development organizations, sports clubs, service groups, Greek life, and more. Belmont also hosts multiple on-campus worship services, local and international missions projects and numerous Bible studies, giving students the opportunity to grow in their faith as well as serve others. The Fitness and Recreation department at Belmont offers students options such as daily group fitness classes, personal training opportunities, a recreational gym, workout room, racquetball courts and an on-campus climbing wall – ensuring that the whole person remains active, body, mind, and spirit.
