The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), the state’s flagship public, academic health system, has been educating students since 1911. The University’s mission is to “bring the benefits of the health sciences to the achievement and maintenance of human health, with a focus on the citizens of Tennessee and the region, by pursuing an integrated program of education, research, clinical care and public service.” Online programs and courses are offered in the areas of dentistry, health professions, graduate health sciences, and nursing. Hosted by the Blackboard learning management system, UTHSC’s online programs are designed to make learning convenient and accessible. Instructor-led, UTHSC’s online courses do not offer an independent study environment and students are required to meet assignment deadlines on a weekly basis.
