New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology’s distance education program presents web-based coursework to permit students to access and participate from anywhere there is an internet connection. Distinct from several online programs, New Mexico Tech provides multimedia access to campus classes using a connection platform that brings the physical classroom to the virtual student. Distance education is administered under the Academic Center for Technology who oversees all elements of the program. The school also incorporates Canvas as an additional content delivery mechanism in conjunction with the ‘smart classroom’ model. Graduate degrees offered online in this format include a certificate program in hydrology and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering, engineering management and science education. The website offers information and technical support for distance students relative to classroom and Canvas programs.
