The School of Business and Information Systems at York College includes the Department of Accounting and Finance and the Department of Business and Economics. With its main campus in New York City, the business capital of the world, the business school’s goal is to encourage and assist its students in obtaining internships with industry leaders and developing practical knowledge along that works to coincide with their classroom education.

Today’s economy reveals some massive changes in both technology and political-economic developments that the business school harnesses to improve its programming. Since the constant from day one is change, the School of Business and Information Systems is continually developing and revising its programs to fit the dynamic modern environment of the business community. The school judges itself based on its performance educating and helping students grow.

Education

Programs currently offered at the School of Business and Information Systems include a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science with several choices for concentrations. Students interested in pursuing the BS can add a specialization in Marketing, Accounting, Information Systems Management, Aviation Management, Business Administration, and Finance.

The Accounting focus provides knowledge of each of the primary topics of accounting required for the CPA examination, including auditing, financial, managerial, and taxation. Graduates in this field will be competent with technology commonly used in the accounting profession. The Aviation program at York is committed to delivering the highest quality aviation-oriented learning, research, and service to its students, college, and university.

York’s Business Administration program provides students with the fundamental knowledge and educational experience they need to think critically and creatively. Students will be able to adapt to changing economic, social, and technological environments. The Finance program’s goal is to provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to succeed as entry-level finance professionals. The Information Systems Program seeks to educate students with in-depth knowledge in all aspects of information systems and their relationship to the world.

Featuring 60 Marketing credits, the purpose of the marketing degree is to educate students to enter the business world as well-prepared college graduates. The BA in Economics develops professionally knowledgeable and well-informed professionals with problem-solving, quantitative thinking, and critical-thinking skills to solve complex problems.

Student Life

York College has nearly 50 student clubs and organizations which organize a range of events, including discussions about current issues, networking mixers, graduate seminar, and cultural/ethnic celebrations. Student groups like the Golden Standard Accounting Club, Aviation Club, Muslim Student Association, African Students Association, the Information Systems Management Club, and the International Student Society add to the institution’s culture.

Online Programs

The School of Business and Information Systems at York College offers some excellent online courses within its undergraduate programs. The Bachelor of Science in Marketing, Accounting, Information Systems Management, Aviation Management, Business Administration, and Finance have web-based coursework that students can choose in the place of courses offered in the traditional classroom. York’s BA in Economics also features online classes.
