The College of Business and Public Management at West Chester University offers broad-based business education, with academic departments in seven distinct areas; Accounting, Criminal Justice, Economics and Finance, Geography and Planning, Management, Marketing, and Public Policy and Administration. This comprehensive business school holds accreditation through the AACSB, as well as NASPAA. The online Master of Business Administration was ranked 58th in the nation by U.S. News and World Report in the 2019 ranking.

Education

Students embark on their business careers by earning one of the highly reputable Bachelor of Science degrees in Accounting, Business Management, Criminal Justice, Economics, Finance, International Business, Marketing, or Urban and Environmental Planning, or a Bachelor of Arts in Geography. The Department of Geography and Planning was the recipient of a Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award during the 2019 Summer Esri User Conference. Marketing students are able to earn a Google Analytics Individual Certification by enrolling in Special Topics in Marketing.

The College of Business and Public Management graduate students can earn a Master of Business Administration, Master of Public Administration, Master of Urban and Regional Planning, or Master of Science in Criminal Justice, Geography, or Human Resource Management. Students are required to complete the 30-credit hour MBA program within three years. The graduates of this program are highly successful, with 40% reporting they earn over $100,000 per year. Alumni of the MBA program have entered careers in senior-level roles with CVS Health, Hilton Worldwide in Latin America, non-profit organizations, and government agencies. Graduate certificates are also offered in Geographic Information Systems, Human Resource Management, Nonprofit Administration, Public Administration, and Urban and Regional Planning.

Student Life

Business students realize employers are looking for more than just academics, and there’s plenty to do through The College of Business and Public Management to prepare students to stand out. In 2019, a West Chester student was awarded $10,000 as the winner of the Annual Student Business Competition sponsored by Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education. Departmental clubs include honor societies, such as Beta Alpha Psi, Chi Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Iota Epsilon. Internships are highly recommended, and students have interned with Morgan Stanley, First National Bank, and American Express. There are also volunteer opportunities available through the Office of Service-Learning and Volunteer Programs. The Dr. Edwin Cottrell Entrepreneurial Center and the GIS Spatial and Analysis Center provide students with student-centered learning experiences.

Online Programs

Students can complete their online MBA part-time in approximately two years, or full-time in as little as one year. Assignments and exams have weekly deadlines, but can be completed any time with that window that is convenient for the student. The curriculum is the same as the on-campus program and features courses such as Entrepreneurship and New Venture Creation, Innovation and Marketing Strategy, and Global Operations and Supply Chain Management. Students can continue their education with a Doctor of Public Administration. This degree emphasizes leadership, policy advocacy, strategic management, economics, and finance. Students can select a concentration in Public Policy and Administration, Criminal Justice, Geography and Planning, or Graduate Social Work.
