
The John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics offers students high-quality undergraduate and graduate degrees for developing students and career-oriented professionals. All of the business school’s degree programs are based in the university’s liberal arts tradition and centered on the synthesis of theory across business disciplines, the application of sound theory to practice, and the acquiring of professional skills. While the Goddard School of Business & Economics is primarily a regional institution, it seeks to equip its students to make an impact on the global economy.
Three principles are central to the business school’s mission. The Goddard School of Business & Economics champions continuous learning through excellent course delivery, dynamic student-faculty interaction, small classes, and an assurance of learning processes. The business school is also committed to faculty scholarship meant to improve effective teaching. Research is also a high priority for the business school. The Goddard School of Business & Economics portfolio of staff intellectual contributions to business and education is impressive. It includes utilization of research outcomes to further learning, application of sound theory to practice, and advancement within and across a multitude of disciplines. Community is an important factor to the business school. They strive to enhance community through the dissemination of best business practices, the provision of economic data and analysis, the engagement in professional societies and organizations, and the initiation of strategic relationships that result in life-long learning opportunities for school stakeholders.
Education
The business school includes a Department of Business Administration and Marketing, Department of Economics, Department of Supply Chain and Management Information Systems, and a School of Accounting and Taxation. Students of the business school have access to undergraduate degrees in accounting, economics, business administration, finance, entrepreneurship, human resource management, marketing, and leadership. Graduate students will find an MBA with a plethora of concentrations, a Master of Accountancy, and a Master of Taxation.
Student Life
The Goddard School offers a variety of student clubs for business students to get involved with. These organizations emphasize different areas of professional development and give undergraduate and graduate students the chance to become involved with others while pursuing their education. Clubs and organizations include the Achieving Women’s Excellence, Beta Alpha Psi, Freshman Sophomore Business Club, Supply Chain Catalysts, Student Chapter of SHRM, Student Economic Association, Wildcat Investors, Weber Association of Marketing, and Weber Entrepreneur Association. As one example, the Weber Association of Marketing offers students the chance to learn about technical marketing skills that are not covered in class, network with local business owners, and build relevant marketing experience for a stronger resume.
Online Programs
Business and non-business majors alike may want to consider earning a master’s degree like the Master of Business Administration as it prepares students for a management or executive-level position within the business sector. Students of the Goddard School of Business & Economics can switch between a full-time and part-time study scenario at any time. Courses are presented within eight-week terms and are delivered one night per week at the Weber State Davis campus in Layton. The MBA program is designed for working professionals. A close-knit classroom environment is supplemented by online courses delivered at the student’s convenience.
