Utah Tech University offers rigorous business programs through the College of Business. Utah Tech offers open-enrollment to any student who wishes to pursue a higher education, but students should be prepared to fully apply themselves. The highly qualified professors provide a stimulating curriculum and focus on student-centered success. The COB meets the stringent standards for accreditation by the ACBSP and has produced high-level leaders, such as the CEO of Skywest Airlines and Ryder. The student-to-faculty ratio is 20:1, which gives students the confidence to participate in lively classroom discussions. Utah Tech has been ranked among the most affordable small colleges by CNBC, and the city of St. George is listed as one of The Best Small Places for Businesses and Careers. Many graduates choose to remain in Utah, and 85% are employed or have entered graduate school within one year of graduating.
Education
Undergraduate students will gain real-world experience while simultaneously earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Management, An Associate’s degree in General Technology with a Business emphasis is also available. Budding entrepreneurs may also be interested in earning a Certificate in Entrepreneurship or Maker Certificate. Marketing students can enhance their resume with a certificate in Media Production, Retail Management, Social Media, or Strategic Communication. The Booth Honors program accepts students who are motivated to taking on more academically challenging work. Booth scholars have access to their own special study lounge, seminar-style classes, scholarships, and are able to attend regional and national conferences. Their academic transcript will display an Honors distinction.
The Master of Accountancy was launched in the fall of 2018. This 30-credit hour masters degree can be completed in just one year and prepares students to sit for the CPA or CMA exam. Part-time and full-time graduate assistantships are available for students who would like to work with undergraduate accounting students or participate in faculty research projects.
Student Life
Utah Tech’s motto is “Active learning. Active life.” COB students definitely lead an active lifestyle filled with enriching experiences. Students can learn what it takes to run a business, launch their business, and grow their customer base through assistance from the Southern Utah Entrepreneurship Hub. Atwood Makerspace features a clean-tech, woodshop, and metal shop, so students can manufacture a prototype. After manufacturing their prototype, the Innovation Guidance and Solution Center is prepared to help them secure patents, trademarks, or copyrights on their new creation.
Students interested in scholarly research can receive funding and work alongside a faculty member. Every April, students can present their work at the annual Research Symposium. Students can see the world through semester-long exchanges or short summer faculty-led study abroad trips. Internships and community service events allow students to see what it’s really like to work in a professional environment. Accounting students can assist local residents with filing their taxes through the VITA program. The Utah Tech University Forum features a variety of speakers from different industries. Students who are committed to attending these sessions on a regular basis can even earn one-credit hour per semester.
