The AACSB-accredited David Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah prioritizes positively and effectively impacting the world and being a “community of doers.” They have continuously worked hard at perfecting this mission since 1917. David Eccles was a brilliant, hard-working, entrepreneurial pioneer in the late 1800s. Carrying his namesake with pride, the School of Business values ethical principles, diversity, leadership, innovation, inclusion, entrepreneurship, curiosity, global outreach, inspiration, research, and discovery. With the backdrop of the thriving Salt Lake City, there are countless opportunities to fuel success and prepare future business leaders of the world.  

Education

Undergraduate students can major in Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, Accounting, Marketing, Quantitative Analysis of Markets & Organizations, Entrepreneurship, Management, or Operations & Supply Chain. Qualifying undergraduates can participate in the Business Scholars Program, which is packed with personalized, hands-on learning experiences, honors classes, and opportunities to interact with leaders of businesses in the region and around the world. Graduate students have numerous degrees to choose from including a Masters in Accounting, Business Analytics, Finance, Business Administration, Information Systems, Healthcare Administration, Real Estate Development, and the innovative Masters in Business Creation. The MBA comes in a Full-time, Professional, or Executive format. Doctoral students can pursue a Ph.D. in Business Administration in Organizational Behavior, Finance, Operations Management, Accounting, Information Systems, Strategic Management, or Marketing.

Students can gain priceless international business experience through Eccles Global study abroad trips to places like London, Ghana, South America, Malaysia, Shanghai, Italy, and Barcelona. Another way to enhance the educational experience is through local, regional, national, and international internships.

Student Life

Excellent academic advising, mentoring, career coaches, and Business Career Services exist to guide students through the correct educational path and into a successful career. Student organizations including Business Leaders Incorporated, DECA, Eccles International Student Club, Business Economics Society, Beta Alpha Psi, and the American Marketing Association, exist to provide ways for students to engage with peers, the campus, and the community.

To support the heart for innovation and entrepreneurship, the Eccles School of Business established the Lassonde Entrepreneur Institute which houses Lassonde Studios, an advanced 20,000-square-foot space for creative invention. Students are also encouraged to participate in challenging and exciting business competitions, including the Eccles Beginnings Case Competition. Experiential learning happens throughout the degree programs, primarily through the 12 institutes and centers that offer students research and outreach opportunities. A variety of research happens at the Marriner S. Eccles Institute for Economics and Quantitative Analysis, and the Kem C. Gardner Policy Institute. Students can participate in a real ad agency, AdThing Utah, and manage an actual $400,000 portfolio through the Student Investment Fund. Other resources include the Daniel Funds Ethics Initiative, Utah Center for Financial Services, Sorenson Center for Discovery & Innovation, and the Sorenson Impact Center.    

Online Programs

Online degrees that are offered by the Eccles School of Business are the Master of Business Administration and the Master of Science in Information Systems.
