The University of South Dakota’s Beacom School of Business fosters inclusiveness, excellence, professionalism, ethical behavior, teamwork, respect, responsibility, community, leadership, encouragement, global awareness, and accountability. Through the exceptional teaching and curriculum, students cultivate the business knowledge, critical and analytical thinking skills, and tools needed to conquer their career goals and aspirations. The School of Business carries the AACSB accreditation.   

Education

Those pursuing a Bachelors degree can major in Accounting, Economics, Health Services Administration, Business Administration, Finance, Innovation & Entrepreneurship, Management, Operational Analytics, Human Resource Management, or Marketing. Graduate students can earn a Masters in Business Administration, Business Analytics, or Professional Accountancy. The MBA specializations are in General Business, Business Analytics, Finance, Health Services Administration, Marketing, and Operations & Supply Chain Management. There are fast-track options for acquiring the joint degrees of a BBA/MBA, a BBA/Master of Professional Accountancy, and an MBA/Juris Doctor.

With the generosity of financial supporters, Beacom has a variety of scholarships available for qualifying business students including the Laddie Cimpl Business Scholarship, the Beacom Family Scholarship, and the Black Hills Corporation Scholarship. Students can receive an international learning experience by participating in the study abroad trips to places like Japan, Australia, and Germany offered through the Center for Academic & Global Engagement.    

Student Life

To enhance the college experience and have opportunities to grow in leadership, teamwork, and service, students can participate in a variety of business student organizations. These groups include the Accounting Club, Beacom Consulting Group, College Entrepreneur Organization, Political Economy Club, Society for Human Resource Management, American Marketing Association, and the Omicron Delta Epsilon Honor Society.

The Student Services Center supports students through academic advising and free tutoring. The Career Success Center provides everything needed to connect the academic pathway with career goals. These services include career coaching, help with resumes and cover letters, interviewing preparations, career fairs, workshops, finding internships, job searches, and more. A great resource is The South Dakotan Business magazine, which has articles about current business trends, what’s going on at Beacom, alumni information, and information about activities. Experiential learning opportunities exist for students, faculty, and staff through several of the outreach programs offered by the university. Business students can help reach out to the community through the Business Research & Consulting Services, where they conduct analysis and counsel for businesses. Students can help teach and train kids and adults about finances and economics through the SD Council for Economic Education. The South Dakota KIDS COUNT Center provides data on the condition of the state’s children to help proper policies and programs to be enforced and created. The Small Business Development Center assists small businesses in many ways.

Online Programs

An affordable and convenient way to obtain a degree is through online degree programs. Beacom students can earn a Bachelor of Business Administration in Business Administration, an MBA with all of the specialization options, and a Master of Professional Accountancy entirely online.
