Small class sizes with a diverse student body help to make students from all backgrounds feel right at home. UHCL carries esteemed AACSB accreditation for the business school, as well as accounting. Only 1% of the world’s best business schools have earned this separate recognition. The school carries many distinguished recognitions such as #5 Best MBA Programs in Houston, #16 Best Online Master’s in Finance, and #61 in Best Regional Universities in the West. Additionally, UHCL has many global and local business partnerships that allow business students to network and learn about real-world business scenarios.
Education
The College of Business offers more than 10 undergraduate business degrees in high impact subject areas such as Environmental Management, Healthcare Administration, Legal Studies, and Management Information Systems. The Bachelor’s of Science in General Business sets students up for an array of professions. Core business courses cover topics such as principles of accounting, legal environment of business, business calculus, and money and banking. At the graduate level, there are more than seven options, including a variety of MBA’s, several dual degrees and Master’s of Science in Finance, Accounting, or Environmental Management. The Master’s of Science in Accounting is one of very few in the world to hold AACSB accreditation. The program is designed to fully prepare all graduates to sit for the CPA exam with confidence. Coursework within the degree also ensures that all requirements for professional certifications are met.
Student Life
There are over 90 student organizations for UHCL students to choose from. Accounting Association, Beta Alpha, Psi, and Business Oriented Student Society are just a few that may be of particular interest to those in the College of Business. Community involvement is an important part of the University of Houston-Clear Lake experience. Because of this, programs like Hawks 4 Community, Habitat for Humanity, and Clean Up Your Act are very active on campus. Leadership skills can also be cultivated through activities such as Hawk Leadership Institute, Student Leader Scholarship Program, or the Student Leadership Retreat. The Student Involvement and Leadership team coordinates many activities with six core competencies in mind. These include Communication, Leadership, Diversity, Professional Development, Personal Growth & Integrity, and Community Engagement & Collaboration.
Online Programs
The online MBA at the University of Houston-Clear Lake is offered in convenient 8-week courses. Participants can complete their degree in only 14 months by taking two courses per session each semester. A few of the core courses included in the degree include Accounting for Administrative Control, Management Science and Operations, Corporate Finance, and Executive Decisions in Marketing. Concentrations are available in relevant areas such as Environmental Management, Finance, Human Resource Management, and Sustainability.
