The University of Delaware was established in 1743 and serves the largest student body in the state of Delaware. U.S. News and World Report ranks UD 33rd Best Public University. The well-established Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics has been AACSB accredited for over 50 years. Lerner College is comprised of five academic departments; Accounting and Management Information Systems, Economics, Hospitality Business Management, Business Administration, and Finance.

Education

Undergraduate degree options include a Bachelor of Arts in Economics or Economics Education, and a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Financial Planning and Wealth Management, Global Enterprise Management, Hospitality Business Management, Hospitality Industry Management, International Business Studies, Marketing, Management, Management Information Systems, Operations Management, and Sport Management. Students can also combine any two majors to form their own double major. Double majors can still graduate in four years, by taking classes during the winter and summer sessions. Students can also customize their degree by adding a minor in a unique field such as Beverage Management, Event Management, Restaurant Management, Social Entrepreneurship, Spa and Wellness Management, Sport Management, Trust Management, and many more.

MBA students will select a major in Business Analytics, Entrepreneurial Studies, Finance, Healthcare Management, or Strategic Leadership. To further enhance their degree, concentrations are offered in 12 different areas, such as Entrepreneurial Studies, Hospitality Business Management, International Business, and Museum Leadership. A wide variety of specialized master’s degrees are also available in the field of Accounting, Accounting Practice, Economics, Economics and Applied Econometrics, Economics and Entrepreneurship for Educators, Finance, Hospitality Business Management, Information Systems and Technology Management, and International Business. Doctoral students can earn a PH.D. in Economics, Economic Education, Financial Services Analytics, or Hospitality Business Analytics.

Student Life

Lerner College is comprised of approximately 4,000 students. There are five unique experiential learning centers available for students to advance their business skills. Students interested in teaching economics have the opportunity to educate young learners in the Center for Economic Education and Entrepreneurship. The JPMorgan Chase Innovation Center partners with financial institutions on banking ventures. The Michael and Rosann Geltzeiler Trading Center features Wall Street simulation trading labs. Students can gain hands-on hotel management experience through the Marriott Center for Tourism and Hospitality or learn to operate a restaurant through the student-ran Vita Nova Restaurant. Thanks to all of these learning centers, 94% of students graduate with real-world experience. Additionally, over 100 study abroad trips in 40 countries are available, and more than 30% of students study abroad each year. Networking, internships, and student organizations keep students busy and help them develop the skills needed for success beyond graduation.

Online Programs

The online MBA can be completed entirely online and was ranked 26th in the country by U.S. News and World Report in 2019, and 21st among Global Online MBA Programs by CEO Magazine in 2017. This program can be completed at an accelerated rate in just 16 months, helping students to advance their careers rapidly. Students can select a career focus in Business Analytics, Finance, Healthcare Management, Strategic Leadership, or International Business.
