The School of Business and Leadership at the University of Charleston aligns its programs with the continually evolving business world to best prepare its students for success. It establishes an educational foundation built upon ethical principles, excellence, leadership, creativity, integrity, and professionalism. A variety of innovative business programs are offered on-campus and online and focus on career preparation, professional development, and lifelong learning. Students are mentored, inspired, and transformed while learning in a collaborative and diverse environment.

Education

Undergraduate studies include a broad understanding of business fundamentals and a wide variety of specific areas of study. Students pursuing a Bachelors in Accounting can opt for the three-year fast track program. The Bachelors in Business Administration degree offers majors in Management, Sport Business, Business Analytics, Financial Planning, Sport Analytics, Digital Marketing, Sport Media, and Entrepreneurship.

Graduate students can choose between several cohort-based degrees. The Masters in Business Administration provides concentration options in Healthcare Management, Business Analytics, and Management. The Masters in Strategic Leadership offers specializations in Crisis Leadership, Healthcare Management, Business Management, and Strategy as Practice.

To obtain a first-hand international business perspective, students can join a University of Charleston study abroad program. They can travel to places like Brazil, China, France, Germany, Austria, or Hungary during a spring or summer break. Also, on-campus MBA students complete a 10-day International Practicum in places like Ireland, Brazil, Panama, and China.

Student Life

Real-world application and hands-on experience is a vital component of high-quality business education. Charleston business students find this through many avenues, including class projects, practicum opportunities, internships, and co-ops. Every student is advised, and some are required to complete one internship or co-op during their time at the University. Accounting students have interned with Gibbons & Kawash, CPAs, Brown Edwards & Company, CPAs, and the West Virginia Department of Transportation. Sport Business students have interned with the Cincinnati Reds, Charlotte Hornets, and the Mahong Valley Scrappers.

It is also vital for business students to interact with business professionals. Charleston’s business district provides an incredible number of connections with top-level business executives and leaders who visit campus and speak to and mentor students. There are also professional seminars, where students can meet with entrepreneurs and business owners and build their professional network.

Online Programs

The SoBL provides several flexible online degree programs. Undergraduate studies include a fully online Bachelors in Accounting and Bachelors in Business Administration in Management. Those who have already acquired an associates degree can pursue the two-year online degree-completion bachelors degree program in Organizational Leadership or Cybersecurity. Students can also obtain an online Associates in Frontline Leadership in just five classes.

Graduate students can choose from an entirely online MBA, Masters in Cybersecurity, and Masters in Strategic Leadership with all of the same specializations as on-campus. If a top-level executive position is desired, students can pursue the three-year online Doctor of Executive Leadership degree program, which includes an annual on-campus residency for one week.
