Education
The combination of small class sizes and renowned faculty members gives business students an advantageous academic experience. Undergraduate students can major in Accounting, Economics, Management Information Systems, Business Analytics, Finance, Marketing, Criminal Justice, Communications with a Digital Media or an Integrated Marketing concentration option, or Management with a Healthcare Management concentration option. Every major has an Entrepreneurship concentration option. Economics majors can choose the Ph.D. Preparatory Track. Students who wish to complete a Bachelors and Masters degree can complete the Fast Track program in just five years. There is a Masters in Business Administration and a Masters in Human Resource Management for graduate students. Concentrations available for the MBA program are Finance, Human Resource Management, Leadership & Ethical Management, Accounting, Health Care Management, Information Systems & Project Management, and Marketing.
Many scholarships and grants exist to help fund education, and business students can take advantage of the Students for Entrepreneurship and Economic Development (SEED) Scholarships. This program provides an internship for business students with a professional company. To obtain an incredible international business perspective and experience, students can participate in the Spring Break in London study abroad trip.
Student Life
Business student organizations like ENACTUS, the Society of Economic Analysis, Sigma Beta Delta, the Society for Human Resource Management, and the Investment Club exist to build business knowledge, leadership skills, and teamwork, and provide opportunities to compete. Many campus ministries and service opportunities are available to help assist in the student’s spiritual journey. Professional development is a massive part of any of the business programs, and Shields provides numerous opportunities for business students. A great way to earn professional experience, network, and carries the potential to lead to future employment is through completing an internship.
There are many research opportunities for students to work with real clients providing market research, consulting, and planning. Shields also runs the only research facility in our country that studies occupational regulation, which gives students unique research experience. The Backpack to Briefcase program integrates all of the career development opportunities throughout the coursework. This includes the Business Lecture Series, Executive-In-Residence Program, the student-run micro-lending club, management of a real investment portfolio, the Alumni Mentorship Program, the Accounting Consortium, and participation in the Small Business Development Center.
Online Programs
The online education, Francis Worldwide, offers several 100% online business degrees. There is an online Associates in Business Administration. There is also an online Associates and Bachelors in Criminal Justice. Graduate students can obtain a flexible, highly interactive, online Masters in Business Administration or Masters in Human Resource Management.
