Roosevelt University is a private college in the bustling city of Chicago. Walter E. Heller College of Business offers business degrees designed to help students enter a stable career. Heller is accredited through the ACBSP. Students are educated in small classes featuring an 11:1 student-to-faculty ratio, so no student ever feels like they are just a body filling a seat. Students can attend classes at the main campus in Chicago or in Schaumburg.
Education
Heller CoB offers in-demand majors in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Human Resource Management, Management, Marketing, Organizational Leadership, Real Estate, and Social Entrepreneurship. The Hospitality and Tourism program was dubbed the Manfred Steinfeld program, in honor of the program’s chairmen. Steinfeld was also the CEO of Shelby Williams Industries. Hospitality majors can choose a concentration from Meeting and Event Management, Lodging Management, Food and Beverage Management, Tourism Administration, or Sports Hospitality. The Human Resource Management curriculum is certified by the Society for Human Resource Management.
Graduate students can pursue a master’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Human Resource Management, Organizational Development, Real Estate, or Training and Development. Accounting students can pursue the Professional Accounting or Forensic Accounting track. Classes prepare students for the CPA, CIA, CFE, and CMA exams. MBA students can choose from 17 concentrations, such as Integrated Marketing Communications, Managing Nonprofit Organizations, and Public Administration/Health Services Administration. Classes are offered in the evenings and on the weekends in some programs.
Student Life
Students can learn about all the great ways to get involved by attending the Student Involvement Fair at the beginning of the fall and spring semester. Heller students are encouraged to participate in the Accounting Club, Society for Human Resource Management, Honors Leadership Council, Roosevelt University Public Administration Group, the Pre-Professional’s Club, and Roosevelt University Social Entrepreneurship Group. These clubs present networking and professional development opportunities. The Honors Program also offers a Finance Track. This program offers tremendous benefits, including a full-tuition scholarship, seminars, and corporate tours. This deal is sweetened by a $10,000 cash stipend to help students cover additional costs throughout the course of college, and not one, but two mentors: an academic and an executive mentor.
Students complete a lot of volunteer service, such as working to combat poverty through contributing to urban entrepreneurship programs, filing taxes through the VITA program, and teaching financial literacy courses. The Roosevelt Leadership Institute is a 12-week program designed to help students develop stronger leadership skills. Students can also attend a short weekend Student Leadership Summit in the fall.
Online Programs
Adult learners can balance the demands of daily life while earning an online bachelor’s degree in Organizational Leadership. Supportive faculty teach this degree completion program and act as cheerleaders for their students. Classes are offered in eight-week sessions.
Graduate students have many opportunities to pursue a flexible, online master’s degree. Available degrees include Accounting Forensics, Organization Development, or Training and Development, or an Executive Master of Hospitality and Tourism Management degree. The master’s in Training and Development teaches students how to facilitate professional programs using an e-learning platform. These programs can be completed on a part-time or full-time basis.
