The School of Business & Technology at Huston-Tillotson University fosters the IDEAL values of Integrity, Diversity, Excellence, Accountability, and Leadership. It aims to develop innovative and entrepreneurial leaders in the fundamentals of business and technology from a large, diverse set of cultures and life experiences. As both industries are in high demand, and the skills needed often overlap, the excellent educational environment at the SoBT dramatically prepares students for global success in any venture they pursue.
Education
The School is divided into the Department of Business Administration and the Department of Computer Science. The Department of Business Administration offers ACBSP-accredited undergraduate and graduate business programs. Students in financial need can apply for all kinds of scholarships, including the HT Scholarship, the Military Family Scholarship, the Chalik Community Engagement Scholarship, and the Glandex Semi-Annual Scholarships.
Undergraduates earn a Bachelors in Business Administration degree with areas of concentration in Management, Accounting, and Marketing. The Masters of Business Administration degree prepares students to manage and lead teams of culturally diverse people, which is prominent in Austin and the surrounding areas. The MBA offers flexibility in schedule with a blend of online learning and on-campus weekend sessions and can be completed in 18 months. It also provides an Adult Degree Program in Business Administration that is designed for working adults offering affordability and accelerated learning formats studying one course at a time.
An incredible educational opportunity awaits HT business students through the China Study Abroad Program. They spend four weeks studying courses like Intro to Chinese, International Business, and Chinese Culture at Heilongjiang University in Harbin, China. Along with the academic component, students spend the rest of their time immersed in the Chinese culture, visiting popular locations, taking weekend excursions, and visiting with local families.
Student Life
Business students can engage with peers, grow in leadership and essential business skills, and meet professionals through campus student organizations. Groups include the prestigious Delta Mu Delta International Business Honor Society, Student Government Association, and NABA (National Association of Black Accountants). The Business Advertising & Marketing Association hosts business professionals to speak to the students, social events, and fundraisers where students can gain experience in sales. The Toastmasters Club provides leadership opportunities, speaking contests, mentoring, and activities that help develop strong speech-making skills. The incredible School connections with the local business community allow students to network with professionals and hear them speak in the classroom.
An excellent resource for students to develop and enhance their entrepreneurial skills is to participate in the School’s Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation. This Center assists students and community members, especially minorities and women, through education, the Entrepreneur-in-Residence program, the Summer Startup three-day event, the Summer Startup Boot Camp, the Summer Youth Entrepreneurship Program, workshops and classes for small business owners, and its very own Incubator workspace. It is where ideas are developed, businesses are started, and leaders are born.
