2019 marks the 150th anniversary of the rich history at Freed-Hardeman University. The College of Business is recognized by Colleges of Distinction for 2019-2020, based on student engagement, teaching, community, and outcomes. The ACBSP accredited CoB combines top-tier academics with service-minded leadership values. In 2017, Washington Monthly named FHU as a Best Bang for the Buck college. With the new FHU Promise, students can rest assured they are getting a great value for their money. Students who qualify for this program, based on criteria such as a 3.0 high school GPA and a 21 ACT score, will receive a waiver for the remaining tuition not covered by other scholarships, up to 90%.
Education
A Bachelor of Business Administration is offered in Accounting, Business Analytics, Finance, Finance: Financial Planning, Management, and Marketing. A dual BBA/MBA degree is also available. Students in this program will generally complete their undergraduate requirements through traditional on-campuses courses and their MBA online. This degree prepares students to sit for the CPA exam.
Student Life
Students can meet their future employers through the annual Meet the Firms networking event in the fall or Launch in the spring. The Clayton Investment Fund provides students with hands-on experience managing a $1 million portfolio. Students are motivated to grow this fund because the finance program actually received a portion of this money to cover expenses such as guest speakers, technology, student experiences, and career preparation programs. The Society for Future Accountants helps students meet professional contacts through community service projects and frequent field trips. The Society for Advancement of Management provides students with the opportunity to compete in the annual SAM case competition. The Career Center helps students convey their classroom knowledge and extracurricular experiences to employers through assistance with developing a cover letter and resume writing. Students are placed in front of potential employers through job shadowing, and ultimately land internships and full-time careers.
Online Programs
The flexible, online Master of Business Administration and MBA in Healthcare Management are available for graduate students. Each of these programs consists of 30-credit hours and can be completed in approximately one year. Classes are generally taught at an eight-week accelerated pace during the fall and spring semesters, and in four-week mini sessions during the summer. The Strategic Decision-Making course is the required capstone component and is to be taken during the student’s final semester. Students wishing to pursue their CPA license are advised to enroll in Fraud Examination and Principles of Taxation II. Both of these accounting classes are offered in person or through video streaming online.
Healthcare students have the option of earning credit hours for completing an Integrated Healthcare Administration Experience. A 15-credit hour graduate certificate is also offered in Healthcare Management, for students who have earned an undergraduate degree and are interested in making a career change or advancing in the healthcare industry. Online students have access to career services through the College Central Network. CCN allows students to create and post their resume online, search for jobs, and listen to career podcasts on iTunes.
