Dean College is a private institution that was established in 1865. The well-established School of Business has an outstanding reputation for producing top-notch business executives and entrepreneurs. Notable alumni include the founders of CVS, Sid and Stanley Goldstein, and William Green, chairman of Accenture.
For nine consecutive years, Dean has been ranked among the Best Colleges by U.S. News and World Report. Dean is also among the Colleges of Distinction and listed as a Business College of Distinction. Dean has a family-like atmosphere, with an average class size of 18 students. It is evident professors offer a nurturing environment and place a priority of student success, because 95% of students seeking a Bachelor’s degree graduate in four years, and 96% of those graduates are employed or enrolled in graduate school. Alumni are set up for long term success, and work for Fidelity Investments, the LA Dodgers, and Liberty Mutual.
There is a business aspect to virtually every field of study, and the SoB has a diverse offering of degrees to train students for management careers in a multitude of industries. Associate degrees are offered in Communications, Sport Management, Business Management, and Criminal Justice and Homeland Security. Bachelor’s degrees are available in Athletic Coaching, Recreation Management, Communications, Entertainment Industry Management, Sport Management, Business Management, Criminal Justice and Homeland Security, Marketing, and Sports Broadcasting. The SoB offers exhilarating experiential learning opportunities, such as job shadowing professional sports coaches in their element on the field, social media labs, and consulting projects beginning freshman year.
Being a student at the SoB can be described as a four-year academic adventure. One hundred percent of students complete internships, but nothing about these positions is rudimentary. The business school has formed strong partnerships that allow students once-in-a-lifetime opportunities with Boston Ballet, the New England Patriots, Walt Disney World, and many other companies.
The Dean Career Advantage program provides four years of one-on-one career coaching, including networking, resume building, and mock interviews. The Center for Business, Entertainment, and Sport Management provides access to behind-the-scenes tours of Gillette Stadium, meet-ups with professional athletes, and the opportunity to participate in the Banner Ceremony at the New England Patriots game. The Leadership in Action program features at least six presentations each year. The previous line-up has included executives from Universal Studios, Citizens Bank, and start-ups. Students can also attend the Dean Leadership Institute Executive Lecture Series, with prominent leaders from Microsoft or Nike. One-week courses are also offered for credit instructed by leaders from Dell, Accenture, and Pawtucket Red Sox.
A select group of students is chosen each year to compete in the IACBE Regional Conference case analysis. Students also step out of their comfort zone to participate in study abroad programs around the world in China, England, France, Greece, and Italy. Business organizations include the Arts and Entertainment Management Club, the Business Club, and the Criminal Justice and Homeland Security Management Club. Students have also worked with United HealthCare to build a playground as part of the “Do Good. Live Well.” Campaign.
