Education
The SoB features a wide array of business programs ranging from certificates to a Bachelor’s degree. Certificates provide essential job skills needed to successfully enter the job market. The Skills Certificates available include Administrative Assistant, Bookkeeping, Office Assistant, and Real Estate. These certificates only require three or four classes, and therefore can be completed in just one semester. The next step up is the Certificate of Achievement, which is typically 30-credit hours and can be completed in roughly one year. Students can earn a CA in Bookkeeping, Business Management, Computer Office Technology, Paralegal Studies, Real Estate, or Retail Management.
Students who earn their Associate’s degree have a greater likelihood of securing a job with a higher starting salary. Students can pursue an Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business, Business Management, Computer Office Technology, Marketing, Paralegal Studies, or Real Estate. Ambitious students seeking to advance beyond the Associate’s degree can proceed with a Bachelor of Science in Project Management. This degree allows students to select management electives.
Student Life
There are many services in place to ensure students have a smooth transition into college. Students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor early in their education journey to discuss goals and select the right program for themselves. The Center for Academic Success provides drop-in tutoring sessions. The Career Technical Education Assistance Program assists non-traditional students, such as single parents and first-generation college students, through financial aid, and all students are eligible for textbook loans if materials are available.
Many workshops are hosted on topics such as resume and cover letter preparation, budgeting, and building a support network. Students can also receive help with finding a job or internship. The Career and Transfer Services Center is available to all students and offers additional career guidance in the form of job fairs, career information sessions, and interview preparation. Students can also create a resume that will be accessible to employers interested in hiring CSN students for job openings. Organizations include the Accounting Club, Circle K International Club, the National Society of Leadership and Success, and Student Government Association.
Online Programs
Students looking to earn a credible online degree will discover many options at CSN. The Bachelor of Science in Project Management can be completed through distance education, as well as Associate’s degrees in Accounting, Business Management, Casino Management, or Hospitality Management. Students will create an ePortfolio displaying essays, business spreadsheets, photographs, discussion board comments, and any other relevant work samples. These portfolios are a great way to show future employers that students are truly prepared to take on a multitude of industry-related tasks.
