Bethune-Cookman University has a mission to “develop global leaders committed to service, life-long learning, and diversity by providing a faith-based environment of academic excellence and transformative experiences.” The value system of the University is based around the acronym F.I.R.S.T. which stands for faith, integrity, respect, service, and thirst for knowledge. B-CU was founded in 1904 by a young African American woman named Mary McLeod Bethune, who started the School with only $1.50 and five young female students. Over the years, the University has grown. But its humble beginnings are still celebrated as an important part of the campus experience.

Education

BC-U business students can earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Accounting, Finance, Information Systems Management, or Business Administration. The College of Business and Entrepreneurship carries elite ACBSP accreditation and focuses instruction on experiential learning, effective communication, and critical thinking skills. Past students have utilized this approach with internships for top companies like NASCAR, Chegg, Nike, and the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Student Life

Each year the Meet Your Campus Expo showcases over 80 clubs and student organizations for new students. There are many options like Greek fraternities/sororities, service organizations, leadership organizations, and honor societies. Intramural sports are a great way to build leadership and communication skills. Flag football, powder-puff football, bowling, and soccer are just a few of the teams that are available to join. The Wildcat Center is a place for students to hang out, exercise, and take a break from studying. The Center includes a game room with pool tables, table games, foosball tables, and gaming consoles. There is also a lounge with four flat-screen TVs and large comfortable couches. Students are also able to make sure that they are staying physically fit by utilizing the Fitness Center. Within the Fitness Center, there are treadmills, exercise bikes, free weights, stair masters, and more.

A variety of scholarship opportunities make earning a degree less overwhelming. There are several types to apply for, including academic, external, as well as Florida State Scholarships and Grants. All Freshman and Sophomore students must stay on-campus in campus housing. There are 18 residential locations to choose from. All rooms come with a desk, chair, extra-long twin-sized bed, dresser, wireless internet, and wiring for cable television.
