The AACSB-accredited Robert B. Willumstad School of Business at Adelphi University values innovation, diversity, creativity, integrity, collaboration, originality, and using the latest technology to prepare students for success. Willumstad himself is an intelligent, hard-working, ethical businessman who is a pillar of service, leadership, personal character, and civic responsibility. The SoB honors him by reflecting the same principles and instilling a multicultural perspective and effective communication, critical thinking, and leadership skills in every student.
To give students an in with employers, the Willumstad Winning Edge is built upon innovative academics, career readiness, global networking opportunities, tech credentialing, learning for leadership, and personalized learning. The Global MBA has the advantage of being located in the middle of the global financial capital of New York City and focuses on a worldwide business enterprise. Graduate students can receive financial aid through the Graduate Recognition Scholarship, the Alumni Award for Graduate Study, or Graduate Assistantships. A great educational opportunity to learn about international business, innovation, and gain cultural awareness is through study abroad trips to Finland, Brazil, China, France, Spain, or The Netherlands.
The life of a student is comprised of both in-class academia and outside of the classroom experiences. When on-campus, business students can experience faculty mentorships, gain hands-on skills working in the trading room full of high-tech equipment and Bloomberg terminals, and participate in the Student Investment Fund helping manage the University’s endowment of over $350,000. For real-world, off-campus experiences, Willumstad works hard to find quality, competitive, and paid internships and job shadowing opportunities for every student with companies like Geico, State Farm, Flynn Zito, and ING Bank. As leadership is a highly important factor in the business world, students find on-campus opportunities to hear and learn from distinguished scholars and executives through events like the Practitioners’ Perspective Lecture Series and the Hagedorn Lectureship on Corporate and Social Responsibility.
Other leadership growth opportunities exist through the Business Plan Competition, the University Trading Challenge, the Women’s Leadership Conference, the Leadership Scholars Program, and participation in student-led organizations. Groups specific to business students include the Finance Society, Delta Sigma Pi, Accounting Society, International Business Honor Society, Human Resources Society, Beta Alpha Psi, and the Dean’s Student Advisory Council.
