Weber State University is a comprehensive public university in Utah. Weber State University operates off of several locations scattered across Utah in Ogden, Roy, Clearfield, Layton, Morgan, Farmington; the University’s main campus, however, is located at University Circle in Ogden. Established in 1889 as Weber Stake Academy, the school was originally called after the county in which it is located, which was named for John Henry Weber, an early American fur trapper. By 1933 the Academy was turned into a state junior college and following the end of World War II, the school outgrew its original downtown campus and moved to its present location. In 1964 Weber awarded its first baccalaureate degree and in 1991 became Weber State University, “symbolizing its role as Utah’s first comprehensive regional university that also retains a community college mission.”

Academic Programs

Weber State University is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities and has been so since 1932. Weber State University states its mission as “encouraging freedom of expression and valuing diversity,” and providing “excellent educational experiences for students through extensive personal contact among faculty, staff and students in and out of classroom.” The mission statement continues, “Through academic programs, research, artistic expression, public service and community-based learning the university serves as an educational, cultural and economic leader in the region.”

Weber State University awards associate, baccalaureate and master degree programs in the liberal arts, sciences, technical and professional fields. The University offers more than 200 certificate and degree programs as well as over a dozen graduate degrees. In addition, the University offers an Early College Program which aids high school students in entering college early. Weber State University is made up of multiple colleges and schools, including the College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology; Telitha E. Lindquist College of Arts & Humanities; John B. Goddard School of Business & Economics; Jerry and Vickie Moyes College of Education; Dr. Ezekiel R. Dumke College of Health Professions; College of Science; and the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences.

More than 25,000 students are enrolled at Weber State University, the vast majority of which are undergraduates.
