Waynesburg University is a private, nonprofit, comprehensive Christian university located in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania with additional adult centers located in Monroeville, Cranberry and Southpointe. Established in 1849 by the Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the University is named for Revolutionary War hero, General “Mad” Anthony Wayne. Waynesburg University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities and is one of only 21 institutes in the nation to offer the Bonner Scholar Program, providing approximately 15 community service scholarships annually to Waynesburg students. Waynesburg University is known as one of the least expensive private higher education institutions in the nation and was one of the first schools to ever offer degrees to women.

Academic Programs

Waynesburg University’s mission is to educate “students to make connections between faith, learning and serving so they might faithfully transform their communities and the world.” The University’s mission statement continues, “As a Christian comprehensive University, we strive to inspire and challenge every undergraduate and graduate student to a life of leadership and purpose for the glory of God.”

Accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1950, Waynesburg University offers several undergraduate programs with more than 70 academic concentrations, including in the areas of: Athletic Training and Exercise Science; Biblical & Ministry Studies; Biology; Business; Chemistry; Communication; Criminal Justice Administration; Education; Engineering (3/2 Program); English and Foreign Languages; Fine Arts; Forensics; History; Mathematics and Computer Science; Nursing; Professional Preparation; and Social Sciences. Graduate programs are also offered in the areas of Business, Counseling, Education, Criminal Investigation and Nursing. Waynesburg University offer at least four international and domestic mission service trips over each break in locations such as Africa, Ireland, Guatemala and Jamaica, totaling approximately 15 service trips a year.

Student Life

Waynesburg University has a total enrollment figure of more than 2,000, including over 1,500 undergraduate students; the University’s student body is split nearly 50/50 between male and female students. All of Waynesburg University’s students are required to live on campus for the entirety of their stay, unless they are commuting from their parent’s permanent home address. On-campus housing is offered in the form of traditional halls, apartment-styled residence halls, or in university-owned houses. Waynesburg University’s resident life staff focuses on providing holistic student development and strives to create an intellectually, spiritually and socially supportive environment within each residence hall.

A variety of student-led clubs and organizations exist on Waynesburg University’s campus, catering to a wide range of interests and providing students with ample opportunity to create lasting connections with fellow students outside of the classroom. Waynesburg University is an NCAA Division III school, and the University’s varsity athletic team competes in the Presidents’ Athletic Conference. Waynesburg University’s football team boasts an interesting bit of history, as the Waynesburg College vs. Fordham Football game was the first game to ever be televised in the nation.
