Walla Walla University is a private institution which offers liberal arts, professional, and technical programs, located in College Place, Washington, a few miles away from Walla Walla, WA. Established in 1892, Walla Walla University is affiliated with the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The school has been named one of the 100 best regional universities in the Western United States by U.S. News & World Report. Walla Walla University’s main campus is located in College Place, though the University also operates School of Nursing campus in Portland, Oregon, a Marine biology station in Anacortes, Washington, and a School of Social Work and Sociology with campuses in both Missoula and Billings, Montana.

Academic Programs

Walla Walla University was founded on “Christian teachings and values as understood and appreciated by the Seventh-day Adventist Church.” Self-described as a “community of faith and discovery”, Walla Walla University is committed to the core themes of Excellence in thought; Generosity in service; Beauty in expression; and Faith in God. The University’s mission is to “impart a broad knowledge of the arts, sciences, and professions by careful instruction and open inquiry at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.” The University’s mission statement continues, “Recognizing God is the source of all truth, goodness, and beauty, the University seeks to convey to its students a wisdom that translates academic achievement into responsible citizenship, generous service, a deep respect for the beauty in God’s creation, and the promise of re-creation through Jesus Christ.”

Walla Walla University has been accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities since 1932. A variety of undergraduate and graduate degrees are offered, including in Nursing, Engineering, Business, Biology, and Education, which make up the top five largest undergraduate programs. In addition, Walla Wall University offers several study abroad programs in countries such as Argentina, Austria, Brazil, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Spain, and the Ukraine.

Student Life

Walla Walla University has a total enrollment figure of nearly 2,000 – more than 1,600 of which are undergraduate students. Approximately 75% of students choose to live on campus in one of the University’s several residence halls, which are divided by gender, or in Walla Walla University’s Village Housing, which include both one and two bedroom apartments as well as roughly fifty houses which range from one to four bedroom homes. A variety of student-led and faculty sponsored clubs and organizations exist on Walla Walla University’s campus, providing ample opportunity for students, faculty and staff with similar interests to connect.

An NAIA Division II school, Walla Walla University also offers several men’s and women’s athletic teams, including basketball and soccer for men, and basketball, fast-pitch softball and volleyball for women. Walla Walla University’s athletic department is a member of the United States Collegiate Athletics Association as well as the Pacific Coast Athletics Conference (for men’s basketball). In addition, Walla Walla University offers intramurals in floor hockey, football, basketball, softball, soccer and volleyball.
