Wagner College is a private, coeducational liberal arts institution located in Staten Island, New York. Affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, Wagner College was originally established in 1883 in Rochester, NY as the Lutheran Proseminary of Rochester for the purpose of training Lutheran ministers. Eventually, the institution was renamed and moved to its current 105 acre campus on Staten Island. Today, students enjoy easy access to Manhattan with its rich opportunities for high-profile internships and urban adventures. A nationally recognized institution, Wagner College is especially known for its Plan for the Practical Liberal Arts which combines learning communities with opportunity for service learning, internships, and research.

Academic Programs

Wagner College has been accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education since 1931 and also holds accreditation through the Regents of the University in the State of New York. The College is member of the American Council on Education and the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools.

A wide variety of undergraduate programs are offered through Wagner College’s several departments which cover the areas of Humanities, Performing and Visual Arts, Professional Programs, Interdisciplinary Programs, Sciences, and Social Sciences. Some of Wagner College’s most popular majors include Business Administration, Nursing, Theatre/Speech, Physician Assistant, Art Administration, and Psychology. Classes are kept small to ensure that students are able to build solid relationships with their professors. Wagner College highly encourages students to participate in experiential learning and 100% of students participate in an internship or do a practicum. Wagner also offers several graduate study programs in the areas of Business Administration, Education, Microbiology, Nursing, and Physician Assistant.

Student Life

Wagner College has a total enrollment figure of more than 2,200, including well over 1,700 undergraduate students. Nearly all states in the Union as well as 30 foreign countries are represented in the student body. The vast majority of first-year students choose to live on campus as well as nearly 70% of all students. Wagner College provides student housing in the form of several residence halls including Harborview Hall, which houses first-year students; Guild Hall and Towers Hall for upperclass students; and Foundation Hall which is reserved for undergraduate seniors and graduate study students.

Wagner College’s Office of Co-Curricular Programs is designed to encourage “active participation of students in the development of leadership skills, personal responsibility, and social awareness, which celebrates individuality and the connection to the Wagner community.” More than 10% of students are also members of Wagner College’s Greek Life community. As an NCAA Division I-A school, Wagner College fields several varsity athletic teams, nicknamed the Seahawks, which compete in the Northeast Conference.
