Texas Christian University is a private, 4-year school located in the heart of Fort Worth, TX. Set just 3 miles from downtown, TCU’s 300+ acre campus has an academic quad that features Spanish Colonial architecture – complete with the red tile roofs. The campus is made up of three primary areas: residential, academic and “Worth Hills” where the Greek housing and the football stadium are. Founded in 1873, the school is affiliated with the Disciples of Christ. The school was founded in Fort Worth, but moved to Thorp Spring in 1873. In 1895 the school moved again to Waco and, finally, returned to Fort Worth in 1910. Among many notable alumni are NFL quarterback Andy Dalton, former NFL running back LaDainian Tomlinson and the Professor from Gilligan’s Island (fictionally, of course).

Academic Programs

Texas Christian University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges and offers Bachelor’s Degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s Degrees, post-masters Certificates and Doctorates in over 100 fields of study. Noted for Nursing, Health-related fields, Art & Design, Music and Dance, the largest programs on campus are in Business, Health-related and Communications fields. The University is comprised of eight colleges and schools: the AddRan College of Liberal Arts; the Bob Schieffer College of Communication; the College of Education; the College of Fine Arts; the College of Science and Engineering; the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences; the John V. Roach Honors College; and the M.J. Neeley School of Business. The online programs are limited, but the University sponsors a popular study abroad program. Per the University’s succinct Mission Statement, the purpose of the school is “to educate individuals to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community.”

Student Life

There are over 8600 undergraduate students enrolled in Texas Christian University, about half of whom reside on campus in one of the many residential communities. There is a significant Greek culture on campus as well. The University sponsors over 200 clubs and student organizations, including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the purple and white Horned Frogs field teams in 12 sports and participate in NCAA Division I competition. The school has two notable football rivalries: a nationally recognized rivalry with Baylor University that dates to 1899 and a rivalry with Southern Methodist University (in nearby Dallas) that culminates in the annual “Iron Skillet” game that originated in 1946. Among annual traditions is a large-scale festival including the TCU Christmas Tree Lighting. Students are exposed to the core Values of TCU during their college career: Texas Christian University “values academic achievement, personal freedom and integrity, the dignity and respect of the individual, and a heritage of inclusiveness, tolerance and service.
