Spring Hill College is a private, 4-year, Roman Catholic Jesuit liberal arts college located in the Spring Hill neighborhood of Mobile, AL. The school was founded in 1830 by the Bishop of Mobile and was the first Catholic college in the South. The 400 acre campus features a number of buildings included on the National Register of Historic Places. The campus is centered around St Joseph’s Chapel (which dates to 1910) and has several quads, tree-lined pathways and much green space. The school also boasts a professional golf course on campus. The College has endured controversial moments in its history from Civil Rights activities to hosting Lee Harvey Oswald as a speaker (about his living in the Soviet Union) just prior to the Kennedy assassination.

Academic Programs

Spring Hill College is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges and offers Bachelor’s degrees, post-baccalaureate Certificates, Master’s degrees and post-masters Certificates in 45 majors. Noted for Nursing, the largest program on campus is in Business. The College is comprised of 9 departments: Business; Communication, Fine and Performing Arts; Interdisciplinary Studies, Languages & Literature; Mathematics and Sciences, Nursing, Philosophy and Theology, Social Sciences and Teacher Education.

We offer our students a thorough preparation for professional excellence; and we strive to awaken mind and spirit to the pursuit of truth and to the ever-deepening appreciation of the beauty of creation, the dignity of life, the demands of justice and the mystery of God’s love… In our community of living and learning, we are committed to the Jesuit tradition of “cura personalis,” that is, a care for the spiritual, social and intellectual growth of each person.”

Student Life

There are over 1300 undergraduate students enrolled in Spring Hill College, most of whom live on campus among the nine residence halls and apartments, as well as over 10 Specialty and Themed communities. The College sponsors over 50 clubs and organizations including club sports and intramurals. For the varsity athlete, the purple and white Badgers field teams in 9 sports and participate in NCAA Division II competition. The school puts forth a ‘Compelling Focus’ which says that the people of Spring Hill College, in community, work together to nurture learning for body, mind and spirit.
