There are over 80 clubs and student organizations available, including club sports and intramurals. Spelman made the decision to forego varsity, intercollegiate athletics in 2013 and redirected the money formerly used for athletics to the construction of a Wellness Center, the goals of which include: comprehensive programming that is: Instructional, recreational, competitive, informative; development of citizen leaders through the development of KSAs (knowledge, skills and abilities); and maximize campus outreach by expanding wellness on campus through collaborative programs, consistency in marketing and holistic customer service. The Center is a member of NIRSA (National Intramurals, Recreation and Sports Association) and serves as a model for small colleges and universities (particularly single gender). The Center committed to ongoing quality assessment and evaluation by establishing program objectives, learning outcomes, satisfaction objectives and participation statistics of all our wellness center users.
