Oregon Institute of Technology (commonly referred to as Oregon Tech), located in Klamath Falls, Oregon, is a public polytechnic university and the only one of its kind in the Northwestern United States. Founded in 1947, the college was first called the Oregon Vocational School and was originally established for the purpose of training and re-educating World War II veterans. Often named one of the West Coast’s best public universities for preparing students for the technology and renewable energy industry, Oregon Tech’s mission, at its core, is to offer “innovative and rigorous applied degree programs… [and] to foster student and graduate success.”

Academic Programs

Accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities since 1962, Oregon Institute of Technology is one of the few Technological Institutes in the United States that is committed to hands-on instruction and applied sciences. Oregon Tech’s curriculum focuses on applied technologies, engineering, health professions, applied sciences, and management and the school offers more than 30 degree programs with over 35 majors from which to choose. Oregon Tech is made up of two main schools, the College of Engineering Technology and Management which offers nearly a dozen degree programs, all of which are accredited by the EAC of ABET, and the College of Health, Arts and Sciences. Many of Oregon Tech’s courses are also offered online, providing students maximum flexibility and convenience.

Oregon Tech offers several pre-professional programs at the Klamath Falls campus including: Pre-Dental Hygiene, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Medical, Pre-Osteopathic Medicine, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Physical Therapy, and Pre-Veterinary Medicine. Graduate degree programs offered at the Technical Institute include: Master of Education (with emphases), Master of Science in Allied Health, Master of Science in Civil Engineering, Master of Science in Engineering, Master of Science in Manufacturing Engineering Technology, Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy, and Master of Science in Renewable Energy Engineering.

Student Life

Oregon Institute of Technology boasts a total student population of over 4,000 – the majority of which are undergraduate students. Oregon Tech operates off of its residential campus in Klamath Falls with an urban campus located in Wilsonville, Oregon; in addition the school offers several programs at regional sites in Salem, La Grande, and Seattle. The Klamath Falls campus overlooks Upper Klamath Lake and is adjacent to the Sky Lakes Medical Center; Oregon Tech’s residential campus boasts beautiful mountain and lakeside views and features a number of new halls and academic buildings. On-campus housing is offered in Oregon Tech’s Residence Hall or Village Apartments and students can enjoy a variety of on-campus dining options.

Oregon Tech is a member of the Cascade Collegiate Conference and competes within the NAIA Division II. Nicknamed the Hustlin’ Owls, Oregon Tech boasts nearly a dozen athletic teams, including men’s baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, track & field and women’s basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, track & field, volleyball.
