North Greenville University is a private, comprehensive, Christian college located in Tigerville, South Carolina. Founded in 1892, North Greenville University was originally established as a high school for the children of northern Greenville County in South Carolina. In 1904 the school received a state charter and in 1915 was renamed the North Greenville Baptist Academy. In 1934 a junior college was added and after receiving accreditation in 1957 as a two-year college, the school discontinued its high school courses and again changed names, this time to North Greenville College. In 2006 the college attained university status and changed its name one last time, to North Greenville University. North Greenville University received national recognition from Forbes and US News & World Report, each of which have named North Greenville University as one of the top colleges in America and as well as one of the best Christian Colleges.

Academic Programs

North Greenville University is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has been so since 1957. North Greenville University is affiliated and committed to the South Carolina Baptist Convention and as such, has a mission to “prepare students to become better contributing members of society by educating the whole person through an integration of academic discipline, a Christian worldview and lifestyle, and an enriched cultural experience while offering students exceptional opportunities for spiritual growth, academic training, and Christian service.” North Greenville University’s mission statement continues, “Christ is preeminent in all University curricular and co-curricular programs, teaching, research, and service activities.”

North Greenville University is made up of several colleges and schools, including the College of Business & Sport Professions, College of Christian Studies, College of Communication, College of Education, College of Fine Arts, College of Humanities, and the College of Science and Math. A wide variety of undergraduate, graduate programs are offered at North Greenville University. In addition, online degree programs are available for adult students over the age of 22 years, in the areas of Business Administration, Christian Ministries, Criminal Justice and Legal Studies, Elementary Educational Studies, General Studies, and Psychology.

Student Life

North Greenville University has a total enrollment figure of more than 2,500 – over 2,300 of which are undergraduate students. The university’s campus is located in a rural area in the beautiful foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. North Greenville University has the capacity to house approximately 1,500 students on campus, with residence halls that are divided by gender. A number of student-led clubs and organizations exist, catering to a wide range of interests and passions. In addition, North Greenville University’s intramurals offer students a variety of competitive sports including flag football, softball, basketball, volleyball, ultimate Frisbee, and more. North Greenville University’s game room also offers students a recreational outlet, with its pool tables, ping pong tables, foosball table, air hockey table, board games, Wii gaming system, outside games and equipment and more.

North Greenville University varsity teams compete at the NCAA Division II level, and the school is a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association as well as the Conference Carolinas. More than a dozen sports are offered at North Greenville University, including basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, and more.
