Nazareth College is a private, coeducational, independent institution, located in the charming suburb of Rochester, New York. Established in 1924, Nazareth College began as a Catholic women’s college, founded by five Sisters of St. Joseph at the request of Bishop of Rochester with the original focus of “serving all without distinction”. Since that time, Nazareth College has expanded and grown into a co-ed, non-denominational comprehensive college and is nationally recognized for its Fulbright global student scholars as well as for its dedication to civic engagement. Named one of the nation’s best institutions for undergraduate education by The Princeton Review, Nazareth College has received top honors and been included in a number of rankings by the Washington Monthly, U.S. News & World Report, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, and more.

Academic Programs

Nazareth College’s mission is to “provide a learning community that educates students in the liberal arts, sciences, visual and performing arts, and professional fields, fostering commitment to a life informed by intellectual, ethical, spiritual, and aesthetic values; to develop skills necessary for the pursuit of meaningful careers; and to inspire dedication to the ideal of service to their communities.” The College holds its accreditation through the Middle States Commission on Higher Education which was granted in 1930.

Nazareth College is comprised of three schools and a college, namely the College of Arts and Sciences, the School of Education, the School of Health and Human Services, and the School of Management. More than 50 undergraduate majors are offered including in the areas of education, health and human services, management, the fine arts, theater, math and science, foreign languages, and the liberal arts. Nazareth College awards all levels of degrees from baccalaureate to doctorate, including several master degree programs. Nazareth College is purposeful about having a global focus and encourages students to participate in experiential learning and community service.

Student Life

Nazareth College has a total enrollment figure of nearly 3,000, including well over 2,000 undergraduate students. On-campus student housing is available through nearly a dozen residence halls and Nazareth College offers a free laundry service, vegetarian meal options, and on-campus parking in order to cater to a range of students’ needs and desires.

Nazareth College recognizes at least 50 student-led clubs and organizations which offer students the opportunity to build friendships and make connections outside of the classroom. Nearly all undergraduate students participate in some type of community service during their time at Nazareth College and in one year alone 500,000 hours of service to the community were contributed. Students also enjoy the variety of plays, exhibits, lectures, and concerts that the College hosts and opportunities for recreational activities and events are not lacking either. As an NCAA Division III school, Nazareth College fields at least two dozen varsity sports teams as well as a junior varsity team and the school is a member of the Empire 8 Athletic Conference.
