The Midwives College of Utah offers a distance education program permitting students to complete the academic requirements for their degree on their own schedule with no on-campus requirement. The program utilizes current technology to forge a connection between students and faculty in spite of physical separation; excellent communication is an integral part of the learning experience. For the practical clinical portion of the education program, distance students are aligned with an approved preceptor (midwife) within their local area. The Midwives College of Utah is sensitive to the learning needs of its students and allows for elements of structure as well as the freedom of schedule flexibility to promote student success. Academic advising and personal coaching are featured in the distance program; a peer-led support network called the Sister’s Circle helps students and alumni stay connected on multiple levels.
