A goal for MacKinnon is to best prepare students for a career. It also helps alumni with career coaching, switching careers, and looking for jobs.

Another goal is to provide plenty of opportunities to experience learning through hands-on activities, professional interactions, and real-world experiences. They get to monitor stock markets, conduct projects, volunteer with local organizations, complete an internship, be mentored by business leaders, and work on research projects.

Other interest groups include the Student Government Association, Secret Kindness Agents, Peer Mentors, Men of Truth, Elegant Ladies, International Student Association, Black Student Union, and Chi Alpha Campus Ministries. Many opportunities to develop leadership skills happen through guest lectures, student leadership positions, workshops, and membership in the National Society of Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi).
