Fresno Pacific University (abbreviated FPU) is a private, coeducational, Christian liberal arts institution. Located in Fresno, California, FPU holds the distinction of being the Central Valley’s only accredited Christian college. FPU’s main campus is located in the Southeast section of Fresno and the university also operates several regional campuses in North Fresno, Visalia, Bakersfield and Merced. FPU is affiliated with the Mennonite Brethren Church and the school’s vision is to be a “leading Christian university known for academic excellence, innovative programming and spiritual vitality.” FPU’s mission is to develop “students for leadership and service through excellence in Christian higher education.” FPU has been ranked in the top tier for its category by the U.S. News & World Report and has also been named one of the Top Hispanic Serving Institutions, according to The Chronicle of Higher Education.

Academic Programs

Fresno Pacific University is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission and has been so since 1961. FPU is made up of several schools and a seminary, namely the School of Business; School of Education; School of Humanities, Religion and Social Sciences; School of Natural Sciences; and the Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary. Nearly 30 undergraduate majors are offered at FPU with approximately 60 areas of study. FPU also offers at least 45 distinct graduate programs with nine seminary degrees as well as several certification programs. In addition, FPU offers several online and degree completion programs as well as study abroad programs in locations such as Columbia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, India, Israel, Palestine, Europe, and Vietnam.

As a Christian university, FPU seeks to embody Christ-centered values, namely: Christian Community; Service to Others; Emphasizing Academic and Professional Excellence; Student Focused; and Innovative and Responsive. All of FPU’s programs place a strong emphasis on values, ethics and character development.

Student Life

More than 3,400 students are currently enrolled at Fresno Pacific University, including nearly 3,000 undergraduates; many of FPU’s students are the first in their families to attend college. Students under the age of 21 years are required to live on campus, due to the value FPU places on the on-campus living experience. On-campus residencies are offered in module style housing (designated for freshman), suite style housing, or apartments and houses (primarily reserved for junior and senior students). A number of student-led clubs and organizations exist on campus, catering to a wide variety of student interests; in addition, more than 100 paid and volunteer student leadership positions are available, providing valuable opportunities to gain experience.

FPU competes at the NCAA Division II level and is a member of the Pacific West Conference. The school’s mascot is the Sunbird and FPU boasts over a dozen athletic teams and a number of national championship wins.
